2nd blacktail down (Pics Added 11-24-07)
Well I finally got a mature heavy 4*3 blacktail off a piece of property I have had permission on thes past 2 years. My two friends Mark and Mike helped pick out the tree stand placement. It took Mike and I a lot of time to thin and clear up some shooting lanes. I woke up today to a foggy morning and was happy. I have had great luck on foggy days while deer hunting. I got in my stand 15 min. before daylight and had three does I believe walk by my stand. I could only make out their bodies, but have seen three does hanging out together there for the past month. After about 15 min. I used my Deer Talk call along with my Primos can and buck roar calls. I got one of the does to come back under my tree stand to investigate. She finally left and I gave it about 15 more minutes before I gave more calls. I could hear the does still walking around in the brush behind my stand. After another 15 min. I gave the three calls another try and they finally worked. I could hear a buck 80 yards out coming in grunting all the way. He came in to 10 feet of my stand; right to the side of me looking for the deer that made all those calls. I wish I would have brought my bow, but I had my grandpa's 270 instead and took the buck at 10 feet. I will post pics as soon as I get them developed. I did not try any rattling this year, which is a shame. I had great success last year, but I am out of deer tags this year. I already got my archery buck this first season. I was going to wait until next week before I started to rattle. His neck was swollen and tarsal glands a little dark, but I think he was just started to get into the heavy rut. I have been hearing that the bucks have been in the pre rut and chasing does, but I think it is just know getting really heavy. Good luck to everyone that has a Willamette or late season archery tag. Don't forget to take out your calls and rattling antlers.

Think maybe I'll try some of your methods next year. However, I did get a nice 5x6 this year. Just right place at the right time.
