Schuck's auto
I went to schucks to get an oil filter for my truck a 77 toyota pickup. The one they sold me was about 1/4 the size of the one that was on there.i called them up and told them the problem they said it would work, and garunteed me that it would work, so i took there advice and put it on. What a mistake that was, i should have known better!! well for a second opinion i called napa and told them what happened, the guy lauaghed and said ya it will work as long as you dont leak oil!! well i went to napa and got the right one, the last time i will ever go to schucks, ya theres a reason they are the cheapest, its not the first time i got bad advice from them(or parts)!!
a question though where around mac can i dispose of old oil??
Thanks

Re: Schuck's auto
I know at my old place in Portland oil disposal was included in my trash service. I just put it in a milk jug and left it beside my recycle can on the curb and they would dispose of up to X number of quarts every so many months so call your waste disposal provider and see if it is included in your contract already before you go pay to dispose of it.

Re: Schuck's auto
On ifish if you are posting a complaint about a business we require that you sign the post with your full name. That way (as an example) a Napa employee can't come on and trash Schuck's for the sake of trashing them.
Thanks.

Re: Schuck's auto
The recycling center on Orchard street in McMinnville takes used oil; put it in old milk jugs.

Re: Schuck's auto
Here, in Beaverton and previously in Aloha and Wilsonville, we just put the old oil into a clear plastic jug with screw-on cap and recycle it with the garbage and other recycling. 'Pretty convenient. I'm not sure whether there's a limit - - when all the cars come due for a change at the same time, I've had as many as three gallon jugs of it out there and it was gone when I came home from work . . . . Re: Schuck's auto
Sorry to hear of your frustrations Pink Samon.
I generally have a rule. Take it in, set it on counter. Make sales guy open new one and play the game "what's wrong with this picture".
This same thing happened to me recently. I call a local parts house and a new person answers the phone. I indicate the vehicle information to the gal and I tell her it's about 15 bucks. I hear computer keys clicking in the back ground...she says they have it and it's 11 dollars. I politely say, wrong filter, that's the 4 banger version. More keys typing...she says it's right and I figure it's a sale or something. I get the tranny draining then run down to the store. They sell me the filter and I didn't even open it as I was talking to the other store guys about mustangs. Well I get home and guess what? Wrong filter. DOH!!!

Re: Schuck's auto
If it's a 20R or 22R you can just use a Ford small block oil filter (PH8 equivalent), they are much larger than the Toyota specific models (not that it matters IMO).

Re: Schuck's auto
When i buy stuff for my cars i usually look in the book to find the right size. I would go back to the store and ask to talk with the manager especially if the guy at the counter got you the filter.

Re: Schuck's auto
Problem is that places like Schuck's, Auto Zone, Knecht's, and the like is that the "manager" gets paid about 50 cents more an hour than the underpaid and underqualified counter help, and he's probably worked there six months longer. If he makes it a year, he'll be a seasoned veteran by their standards.
I spent 17 years in the parts aftermarket (before I wised up and got out of it) and I had 12 years under my belt before I managed a store for a national chain that's similar to NAPA. One day a headhunter came by from Pep Boys. They were opening a store down the street and needed a manager. I was halfway interested until he told me what they were paying. "Sorry, are you talking weekly salary or monthly? Oh. Do I get food stamps with that?" The new store they put in lasted all of a year before they pulled the plug. Big surprise.

Re: Schuck's auto
I had an 84 with a 22r engine that always had two size filters. There was one smaller shorter filter, and one longer filter. Both worked fine and Napa or any other store had both on the list.

Just wondering at what point does a factual story become a complaint? Is it lack of a happy ending?

The OP had a complaint about service received at Schucks, and proceeded to blame "them," rather than the individual at the counter. They then promoted another company for the service received by a single employee. Essentially, this colors one company as bad, and another as good, rather than just blaming or praising an employee. You can do that without naming the employer. This also works with praise as well.

I'm hoping that all complaints are factual, as made up ones posted on this forum border on slander (I remember reading somewhere that it was found to be slander and not libel when posted on a forum, but I may be wrong).
If it's a complaint, it's presumed that it's factual and it needs a signature.
