Another newbie
Hey all you Ifishers! I'm finally going to take the plunge and stop all the lurking I've been doing for the past year or so. I've appreciated all the information I have received from all of you so I figured maybe I can return some. To start off my favorite is steelhead. Love those slime rockets. Story? Well, I'm not sure which is a good one but I'll tell you about a trip a buddy of mine and I took in the early 90s. We had a severe case of cabin fever and OSUitis and we decided to take our spring break and fish over near my parents in eastern oregon. We heard about a unique lahontan cutthroat fishery in a shallow, high desert alkaline lake. Well, many of you know what the weather can be like over there in late March. Unpredictable is one term. We got there and were welcomed with what seemed like hurricane force winds. It was a wee bit cold also. Not being very bright we were tent camping and did witness several other tent camps that seemed to be missing tents. Either they were smart enough to break them down or the tents where half way to Vegas. Fishing our first day was fairly slow, about 4-5 fish per hour, however it was nice to be out on the water. The next morning we woke up to mid 20 temps. It must have been interesting to some watching us thaw out our wading boots in the lake since they were like popsicles. We could not put them on at first! Fishing that morning was a lot of work. Breaking ice out of the guides every other cast and having to stop every 20 minutes to stomp around to get the circulation going again. Yes we were desperate. Our final day we had to leave and meet my parents back in town at 4 oclock, but the sun was shinning bright and we got into a great bite. I kept saying we needed to leave (for about 2 hours) and we finally agreed to stop as soon as there was a cast without a fish. That didn't work very well since we kept at it for about another hour and finally had to call it quits. It was most painful to stop. We ended on a double of 20 inch cutts. Well, there it is guys and gals. Hope to see you out there!!!!!!

Re: Another newbie
Welcome to Ifish.net. Good story. Went to East Lake on opening day once and had similar experience. When I got out of the sleeping bag and crawled out of the tent I had to go potty. My partner, (still in his sleeping bag), asked if it was cold outside. I advised him that my discharge was breaking as it hit the ground!! He go the idea.
I perused the forums on Ifish for 9 months before finnally taking the plunge and registering. I don't know what keeps us from do so earlier.

Re: Another newbie
Thanks for the welcome wishes! I really appreciate it. I guess it takes awhile to join trying to recall a decent story! For real, I think it can be a bit intimidating since there are quite a few people on this board that are very fish savy and nobody wants to appear like a complete ding **** the first time they post. Bucketmouth, that was hilarious, I about lost mine when I read your reply.
