Default HPDI Yamaha

Need some testimonies if they are available.

Does anyone on this board have a 200Hp or larger Yamaha HPDI? If so how has it treated you? How long have you had it?

I am buying a new boat and am trying to decide which power package to go with. My previous boat has a 200 HP Vmax Yamaha with a jet and has been fantastic and flawless. I'm not convinced 4 stroke is the way to go with a jet. So I'm either buying another Vmax or going to the HPDI.

I'm concerned about more maintenance associated with the high fuel pressures these things create.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

TB,

I have the 200hp HPDI on a 21ft Duckworth with the bracket. I've had it for 3 years and it has been flawless. I have a 4-blade stainless prop and top speed is around 52MPH. Could get a little more with a different prop. The biggest difference you will notice is the fuel consumption. It is outstanding vs carbed 2-stroke. Also easy starting (no choke) and no smoke. Very quiet as well. I have several friends that run them on the East coast that have over 500 hours on them with no problems. Good motors.

Tillerboy, I have a 250 HPDI on a 22` North River Scout . Great motor , Only had it a year so far . The Yamy HPDI has been around awhile so they are pretty dependable. They are fairly quiet and do start up nice. I do about 55mph but have reproped and expect a little more out of her .Can`t go wrong with a yamy.

Check out the performance bulletins on the yamaha web site. They compare the mph, gallons per hour, mpg, and noise (Db) at fixed rpms for the 2 motors on the same boat. They may not have tried them on the boat you're considering, but they have done the side-by-side comparisons for a bunch of boats. It is very informative.
