Default Turn in last years tags

I know I've been guilty of forgettting to turn in my old harvest tags in the past but it is valuable information that the ODFW can use. Even if you didn't tag a fish.

In Washington State you're required to by law.

In fishing circles I've heard a lot of guys grumble that "they don't need to know what I've caught...." and never turn in thier tags at the end of the year. I would bet those same people are the same ones that complain the most that the department doesn't do a good job of managing the fisheries.

I heard today that only 20% of the people turn in their tag.

They can only be as good as the tools they are given.....

Where can I mail it to? I just re-upped at GI Joes this weekend (even had to go back to the house to pick up my tag because I forgot it). They were so busy they never bothered to ask me about my tag.

Turned mine in last weekend at bi-mart, that boat is as good as mine I can feel it. When I win I'll be sure and make a post.

A friend of mine won something like 4th place in the contest but I don't remember what he won.

Amp, I think the address is on your tag or at least it's in the regs.

I have a very reliable source who tells me they take all those used tags and build a giant paper mache nose. Then they'll take the 5 dollar increase in this years fee's and stuff all those fiveski's up the nostrills. Light the whole thing on fire ang give the boat to Goldschmidt. (yep he's involved in this scam too) Oh yeah I turned mine in just in case.

I used to keep mine to see how I did the previous years. Now I keep a log and I give mine up when I buy new tags the last day of the year. grant

I was superized when I asked the guy at the counter if he wanted my old tag and he asked why?

I did my best to explain. Luckly his supervisor came by and helped him understand.

Anyway I did turn mine in.

ZAQ, I was wondering that too. So last year I called the phone # thats listed in the synopsis with all the prize info a week after the drawing date. I talked with a secretary and she told me that they had just drawn the winners and they would be contacted soon. Well I didn't win but I thought that the NR Scout pictured would be a nice family addition so I asked who won, she told me that the MAN in charge would have to get back to me so I left 2 different phone numbers with voice mail and caller ID on his voice mail. NO REPLY! So I called again in a few weeks and same thing, not a word. Makes me wonder!
I will probably call again this June just to see if anyone actually has the info, after all I figured that if someone actually won the boat there is a small chance that they might want to sell it a little under market value just to help them pay off the contest winning tax but 3 months after I made the call, my wife suprised me with a brand new N.R. to call my very own.

My 8 year old got his tag again this season for harvest and found out that if someone turns in their tags they could win a Northriver. Wow he thinks for sure that he's gonna win. Told everyone.
Good point DJ.

let's say you turn your tag into Sportsmans, Joes, Fred Meyer, etc. What are the chances of your tag actually making it to the drawing or ODFW? I bet some places out there just toss'em cuase they don't give a rats @%*. Anyway, just figured I'd throw that in the mix.

Who might know where to find the catch info that they get off those S and S tags? I tried to find where it is on the ODFW web site but couldn't, it used to be there. Last time I saw that info it was only counted up to '93 or something like that.

This year they didn't get mine, only because I was still maybe going to use it again before the 31st, I may still get it to them.

They don't seem to have the money to give us current catch records, but they were able to find money for brand new building and a 40 mile move???

I doubt it really matters anymore whether or not you turn the thing in.

Most businesses don't opporate in a irresponsible manner like that and of course it matters SMJ.
That helps them figure more accurately how many feesh were caught in different fisheries/areas and so they don't have to use as much guess work for anglers like yourselves.

What a couple negative, ****-poor, irresponsible atitudes!

Blah Blah Blah...What is the last year Counted? Where is the info on the ODFW website? Do you think they moved all those hundreds of boxes full of our tags from the last ten years when they went to Salem?

9 out of 10 years I have turned my tags in, I used to think it was a big deal. I suppose it is important to get that info into ODFW, but if they havn't counted up the tags in eight or ten years what good is the info anyway?

Maybe I'll get my tag to them today...A new North River would look good in my drivway!

I'm sure the catch records from the tags are a small part of the big picture.

Maybe they would be a bigger part if more than 20% of the anglers turned them in.

For catch statistics check out this book from Amato Publications.

OK newbees, here is a tip.........

When you trun in your tag take a few minutes and read some of the others. You will find some information that may just help you with some run timing. Havent done this in years but when I was learning I used to read every tag adn take notes, but that was before this community existed.

Do turn in your tags, the data is helpful, remember GIGO...........

So I 'spose we should send our tags to Amato publications instead of ODFW?

Doesn't anybody know when the last year counted was?

Dave, I agree that ODFW should be getting a higher % of catch records back. But, if they're not even looking at them 'till ten years down the road, the tags don't mean diddly.

Just so you know, I'm not one of those people who hide fish from the fish checkers, and
I would love for ODFW to count the fish caught using our (my) catch records.

If I pay my fees and ODFW isn't doing their job, I have every right to "Whine"!

The book is written by a guy that did his homework and collected the info from both the Oregon and Washington agencies. Don't know how/where he got the info from them

I beleive they are pretty current. Sooner than then years ago.
