Where to get rid of an old computer?
Just put together a new computer, I used some of the old one (hard drive, CD drive and A-drive) and now I need to get rid of what's left. Where do you take the obsolete stuff?

In Vancouver there is a recycling place on lower river road.

If you're in the Portland area, I'd suggest Free Geek. I think there's a small fee/donation, but it's for a good cause.

Second the free geek. They give computers and training to kids who otherwise can't get them. Very good cause.
Everything except for hard drives. Destroy that one. Take it apart, gouge the platters.

Lock it in your car, someone is bound to steal it.

Or you can donate as above and smash your side window yourself.

Where to get rid of an old computer?
I met a couple in woodburn a few weeks ago and they said that they went down to the middle school there and they were happy to take it. They will also give you a receipt so that you can write it off on your taxes...Help the kids and help your self. Call a local school around you.

Conversely, the local elementary school has been donated so much overly obsolete equipment that they have a basement FULL of it.

Take it to work and throw it in the dumpster.

Re: Where to get rid of an old computer?
O i forgot to say my second best option. Like stated above. Make it look whole, then throw your recent fish catch in it. That is just the guts. Then Seal it back up. Put into the back of your open bed truck and drive into portland. Park on the street go do your shopping for the day. Give it something like 4-5 hours. Come back and it will probly be gone.

There are highly toxic substances in the computer components that should not be put into a landfill. That is why there are specific places to take them for free that will dispose of them legally.

Re: Where to get rid of an old computer?
If your near the Salem area, they'll take it for free at the Salem Recycling & Transfer Station (aka the dump.)
