Saturday Duckin

I decided to take lucy out Saturday for her second hunt. She is in her first heat cycle, and I vowed to take it easy on her, knowing hormones would probably be messing with her. I was very pleased with her performance.

She clearly still has problems with understanding why we are sitting around doing nothing for hours on end, but she has figured out the calls mean action. She was hunting with another dog that wasn't steady, but she honored and was steady herself. She still got a few retrieves because the other dog didn't always see the fall, and recoverd two tough diving cripples. I am confident I could hunt her with anyone's dog.

We got 6 birds for two guns, wigeon, a ringneck, and a wood duck. Not much flying around us. Here she is bringing back a woodie in the bright sun.


Sorry the pic is so bad. All in all a great day. Downside was she got a case of coldwater tail. Yech. Another post for that.

Nice work Kurt! Its good to hear that your pup is starting off on the right paw. After many years of work, my dog is still jumpy at the shot, but usually waits to watch the splash.

I'm sure she will get a lot of reps this season; just what a new dog needs.
