Another Astoria Report
I spent the last week fishing out of Hammond with a few thousand of my closest friends. I have to say the fishing was great and the weather was mostly good. Since last Saturday we averaged 10 fish kept per day with from 3 to 5 people in the boat each day. Wednsday was the worst day with only 1 fish landed but we didn't stay very long out in that slop.
I had a friend fly out from South Carolina for his first ever salmon fishing trip and wouldn't you know, he was on fire. Yesterday he had 8 or 9 bites before I finally got bit and today he landed an upriver fish that was 40+.
The only bummer part is the fishing seems to be getting better but we had to bug out due to schedules and such. We had 3 of us today and we had our chinook limit by 9:00 and were playing catch and release trying to get those last 2 cohos.(never did) We released 4 chinook and 3 cohos and left about 12:00. If you go there has been a good bite above the bridge in 20-45 feet of water on the outgoing. We were using plugcut herring behind a delta diver at 16 and 20 pulls. Hope you have as much fun as we did.
