Default Columbia report

Wow...saw lots of fish hooked today. More rods in the water tho too. A few Ifish folks were out there. We did 2 dinks (about 10 lbs.) as I missed the slot by about 10-20 feet or so...but we anchored on the incoming tide. The guy next to us limited...with 4 fish...all in the 10 -15 lb. range. Saw Kaus get one (see pic), Sureset brawled maybe three fish (??)..Waterdog got three......lots happening out there. Not gonna write too much at this point, because we're gonna hit the crack 'o dawn tide at daylite...and I'm pooped!! Fishchaser...where's your report??

It was a good day, I guess I can't complain (too much). There was lots of OPPORTUNITY for us. 7 good hits, 4 missed/lost, 1 back on a foul, and 2 in the boat. I've never missed/lost so many fish (all on my rod), in my life...... What the heck though, it's nice seeing allot of action around.

What a day!!! 24#, 16#, 12#, one wild Steelie, and two other take downs. We fished the out going only so we started at 12:30 or so. Chartruse tipped Silver Alvin (3' leader,5 dropper) seemed to be the ticket for us, (OK , for my wife anyway, her rod caught all the nooks :cool . Lots of action out there so if you can get out there DO IT! Weather was beautiful, fishing was great. An absolutly perfect day. I'd be out there this afternoon but a BBQ at Sailcat's has me tied to the dock.

Buoy 10.......who needs that mess!

What are you all using when ancor fishing. Kwikfish, spinners, bait?

I'd like to know as I'm still trying to tag a fall nookie or late summer steelhead this year.

Thanks in advance.

I had two of my neighbors out and they didn't want to sit through the outgoing tide. So you might say we got skunked. OH WELL. I guess that way it evens out the score. We did SOOOO well last week at B-10 that we were bound to get skunked sooner or later.

I need some help. I have an open bow boat and it takes on water in the big water when the wind whips up the waves. I need to find someplace to fish where I can sit on the anchor. Where can I go upriver and anchor where I can get a fish or two? I don't want anyones secret spot just a general area on where to anchor what to use and where to launch. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Bill...I think you picked the right week. We didn't do anything afetr the morning tide either. I think there was too much "pleasure craft" activity.....we bagged it at three. One on, then off early this a.m. Heads up above 205!!!

Boat traffic.....yes....I feel like I did the Jane Fonda work out tape on the boat today. I am sure it shut off the bite.

Monday...Should be great!!!

Thanks Jen for posting the photo!!

FM; nice day on the river without a doubt. I ventured out to B10 for the pm tide and feel like I was whooped up on by a gorilla. All the boats and idiots there were not worth it. Time for me to find something upriver where a day of fishing can be relaxing, not intimidating. We caught 4 coho and released 3 others, but it wasn't much fun playing bumper boats all day. One nice guy in a alumiweld striker inboard even displayed a foul temper and mouth to a boat he cut off. Maybe after labor day the boat traffic will drop off out there.

I will post for us bankies that lurk around to see how all your boaters are doing. Warrendale had a fair bite this morning on the outgoing tide. Saw one nice chinook about 20 lbs caught. Several wild steelhead and a few hatchery keepers. I am convinced mylar wings are important. I am still looking for my first Warrendale fish but had 3 good bumps but didn't get the hookset on two of them. When I finally did hook the fish, it wrapped me up on bottom. Progress I guess.

Hey ****, i'm gonna be up there early wednesday and i'm looking for a fish magnet to anchor up next to. You gonna be around? I'm guessing it's somewhere near the sturgeon hole you shared last year?

This afternoon's tide certainly didn't measure up to Saturday's, but we did manage a couple nice fish. An 18.5 hen and a 20 buck. I darn near fell over in the shower tonight as my legs hadn't come back 2 hours later. Man it was like being inside a washing machine out there. I wonder if you could sell rides as an excercise program?......

I suck at fishing. Good thing I take my wife along. We played hooky Friday and she nailed a 21 pound hen. Went out today and she hits a 19 pound buck. I guess I should look at the bright side. I am getting good with the net!
Calling in "well" to work again tomorrow. Maybe it will be my day.

Fished 5 of 6 days this past week. (yes, it's time to go back to work) We dropped out with 14 salmon and only boated 8 of them. Lots of broken knots and snapped leaders. Finally got smart and changed my (new?) #30 trilene XT in for a fresh spool of maxima #40....no more problems. Our best bite has been in 35' - 39' of water. I want to be in 40'+, but the wind always has different ideas. Seems like silver Clancys or Alvins with green tape get the bite.

Glad to watch my youngest daughter boat a nickel bright #21 on the evening tide, last night. She likes to be called "Tyee Girl"!

Hey...I sat next to that blue Alumaweld on Saturday. They got to watch us do the same thing Friday evening. Lucky for them I missed my slot when I anchored on the incoming tide. The only thing they were doing that I wasn't, was using "Dr. Juice". Personally...I think they were in a little "ditch" the fish were moving through. We had that same action (actually MORE) hookups Friday evening, but only managed to boat 2 fish...other folks using "Dr.Juice" didn't fare so well Saturday morning. I don't think it's so much the "scent"...but the 60 inch dropper, and the silver plate Alvins with the blue spot prism tape. There was action all across the river Saturday..from the Washington side to the Oregon side. This will continue for at least another two weeks. Pray for crappy weather to keep the idiots off the water. I watched the "line" yesterday afternoon..very little activity, and with the Mrs. Mission and I being out there every day for a week...we packed it in at 3. Had the dumb lawn to mow. For me...the tides are wrong this week, so you folks won't see me out there til Saturday. Keep your reports coming here on this thread!! Good luck to you all!! Mark P.S....I think I need to repaint my boat and switch identities....as it seems people are looking for me!!

One thing to add:

Keep those alvins and such nice and shiney so they flash good. I really polished them up to a mirror shine. I used some smelly jelly shrimp scent to the extent that I was tring to mask the sun screen. I too will be back out starting saturday with various company.

I fished the morning outgoing today, saw 5 fish caught, 1 was DEFINITELY a Tule that I would only have kept to give to BOE, other than that I would have thrown it back.

Not hot by any means, but a few fish caught. Alvins or Manistee's with blue and/or green tape.

I'll be out there again somewhere tomorow.

RE: Frenchman's Bar Area.

Man, who ARE that couple in the blue detailed Alumaweld? More importantly, what were they doing right? Four fish on Sat, then they leave the line late on Sunday, and when I pass them as we head in, they've got another on!

We were down by the anchored frieghters on Sat and got one chinook on silver Clancey w/blue tape dot.

Sunday we were in the 'main' line and like most everyone else there, got zip.

Saturday was good though so we're looking forward to the next three weeks.

Just a little note of thanks to those of you who have been saying to use longer dropper lines...someone said 5ft dropper - 3ft leader was working well for them. Thanks! I got my tape measure out(wanted to be exact) ya see, I was going on faith here 'cause I would mormally use a bit shorter dropper. We put in at Chinook (Troutdale) and sence my depth finder just quit on me, I dropped into the first line up stream. couldn't tell ya the depth, but I'll tell ya how long my dropper will be next time. Popped a nice hen. Someone said 30 - someone else said 27. Gee, I was thinking it wouldn't feed any more then 15-20 oh well. I missed one other fish, but still had a great day on the river. Thanks again! UB

The wife and I played hooky yesterday and had our best day ever. The afternoon tide was very good to us. Finally got a decent flow about 2 pm and had our four fish in the boat by 5:30. 19, 21, 24, & 25 pounds. Our first boat limit. This being our rookie season, we are both pumped about this.

Silver alvin with a quarter sized green dot on each side. Five foot dropper and three foot leader. Get it deep. 50 feet!

The boat anchored next to us picked up three fish as well. A jack, a clipped silver, and a 16 pounder.
