Re: corky colors/lead
colors all have their places and times. i can't begin to tell you how to deal with it. frankly, i'm dazzled when i step into the aisle at fisherman's. all those colors!!! reminds me of my college daze do a search on colors and wade through the archives. a lot of people have different theories on what to use when. there was a thread not too long ago you should be able to find if you search for "what fish see". some good info there i'm going to try out this fall.
as for lead, fine tune it. it takes a long time to be able to walk up to a run and know how much lead to use. i'm just getting the hang of it after two and a half years. i use pencil lead these days because it's easier to modify the amount. hitting the bottom just right is an equation involving your line, the weight and the run itself. if you find that you're dragging bottom too hard, either don't cast as far upstream or pinch some off. if you find that you're not getting enough bottom, cast further upstream (and take up the excess line as your rig comes back down to you) or add some more. i've been tying a piece of line to the mainline side of my swivel and pinching the hollow core lead down on that. leave some tag end beyond the lead to add more weight if needed.
good luck.
