Guess where a lot of the
burnt out Californians are going to end up? They will take their insurance money, sell the property and run. Straight North, or to one of the other Western states like Utah, Idaho, or Washington. Be prepared. Can't help but feel a little sorry for the people. Maybe when they rebuild they will make things a little more fire proof and keep burnable away from their house. It was interesting watching the news on what you should take with you if you should have to evacuate.

The Santa Anna winds have been taking embers from one fire and carrying them over a mile to start another fire. That's not far enough?

California cooties?
BTW my neighbors house is burnable should I ask him to remove it?
Yes, I agree a person needs to remove brush and stuff from around their home but these are entire neighborhoods going up in flames.
There is nothing for it at this point.
I would gladly welcome any displaced American to our area knowing what they have gone through and that they will have to start (for the most part) all over again.

Re: Guess where a lot of the
Does that mean that some of the houses with piles of cars may get cleaned up?? I have to shake my head when people bash Californians but fail to see what the "native Oregonians" do to their state. Who do you think does the dumping in the woods, poaches the game animals, has junk cars surrounding their homes? Must be the "rich Californians" right?
I don't mean to hijack the thread but it seems like
Oh nevermind, "nuff said.

Maybe one of them would like to buy your house. You get a fresh start or have your problems been adjudicated?

Re: Guess where a lot of the
A lot of people have been evacuated, but in the end, I think most of them will be able to return to their houses. Most of the damage was in San Diego, which had a terrible housing market slump anyways, there are thousands of reduced-price houses on the market in so cal right now available to rent or buy. It'll be interesting to see what happens with the appraised values of the homes destroyed. In some cases, they may be able to buy a better house a few miles away.
So far though, 1,500 homes have been destroyed, I doubt it'll go too much higher. That's just a blip, and if a few hundred of those people go somewhere else, it'll probably be welcomed. A lot of cities have been hit with real estate value losses. If there is a small blip in demand, I've gotta imagine home-sellers in those cities will be thrilled.
As for the houses. Houses in So cal are probably the most fire-proof in the nation. Everything built in the last 10-20 years is stucco with red tile roofs. When the santa anas start up though, there's not much that can stop a fire. If anything, having the new residential developments rather than the native brushland probably slows the fires down some.

Isn't it nice that the fire was so close to the border. This way all the illegals will not have to go far for work.

Re: Guess where a lot of the
These folks are welcome here. It is a little ironic that people decided to build a huge city in a desert, and then are upset when it's hot and dry there and things catch fire. Almost as ironic as people building cities in flood plains and then being upset when they're washed out or in hurricane or tornado alleys and being blown away.
