ROUGH DAY, ROUGH CONDITIONS, BUT A PIC !!
Hit the Columbia today with Jet and my son Kevin and man what a rough day it was. Just check out our net in the pic, we were the wind sock for the Astoria Airport actually the wind was that strong today. The wind was blowing, the waves were rolling and the fish were tight lipped !
We fished out of Hammond today and the weather was not bad but the chop and swells were the worst I have seen this season...not complaining, just explaining. Jet hooked up real quick just out of Hammond but it was a Nate and was released. Two more hookups and no keepers. Finally my rod went off after a discussion on how we should fish and WaaLaa....a nice keeper. Afer this we battled the wind and being the diehards we are had not futher success.
But the FishinMishin completed the mission Ya know with enough help even I can post a pic....

Our day was about the same. Fished out front of Hammond also. We ended up with one keeper 3 or 4 turned loose and a couple long distance releases. Was choppy. We fished a bit the day before also in the high wind and rain after an hour or two we went to the hotel and played cards and drank beer that was more productive. Next week wil be better I hope

Boy that pic. does not really show how rough it was. I think that was the roughest water I have fished at 10 this or in years past. I guess you can also chock the rough conditions up ot a real boat test.
The Weldcraft brought us home again with fish.... Well a fish.

FM2- nice picture, seem like the water was not as bad as described. A few weeks ago I tried to go out of Chinook and was blown off the seas. Never wet a hook. Will try the pm tide tomorrow. Any special spot other than between 10 and 12?

Re: ROUGH DAY, ROUGH CONDITIONS, BUT A PIC !!
SS, we picked up 3 fish near the wing dams across and NW of Hammond. The water was worse than what the picture shows. We then decided to troll nearer the charters which were closer to the Oregon side, a little east of SS beach. We used cannon balls rather that divers because of the up and down movement of the waves, there was less resistance using them. Most fish we marked were not to far from the bottom and we concluded because the water was so turbulent the fish would be deeper. We used 12oz cannon balls, dropped to the bottom (40-45ft), cranked up about 5 and whamo, the fish in the pic hit. One thing I did notice about this fish was the belly was not full of bait fish like every other one I have picked up this season. Don't really know what that means right now, maybe a real expert could shed some light on this.

Re: ROUGH DAY, ROUGH CONDITIONS, BUT A PIC !!
Bev and I fished with our friends George and Linda at buoy 10 today. We got our three fish limit for everyone on the boat. The key to our success was a red delta diver or using a red flasher behind a detla diver. We got 14 coho, four natives and lucky me hooked into a chinook, for five people! Yahoooooo
Thanks George and Linda for a wonderful trip.

Re: ROUGH DAY, ROUGH CONDITIONS, BUT A PIC !!
Nice job fish, sounds like a boat full of happy people. Anytime limits are taken that sure can heal alot of times when you don't. The delta's have been good along with the flasher's, especially the one shaped like a triangle with the bent ends (don't know what it's called) along with 5-6 ft leaders. We trolled fresh whole herring each time out and have hooked more fish this year than I can remember This is truly a great year but I am concerned about 3 years down the road with the low water and dams holding back their flows for electricity.
