Newbie Bass
I have never in my life caght or fished for bass. I have always wanted to get my hands on it and experience the fun. I've been fishin my whole life(im 24 now) mostly for sturgeon, salmon, trout. I have no clue where to begin when it comes to bass. Can anyone give me some good places in the portland area to catch some? As well as some basic tips and pointers to go along with it? oh man that would be greatly appreciated.
thanx and god bless

Re: Newbie Bass
For bank fishing bass around Portland you might want to pm tuanchau or portlandstatekid. There are others as well but this would be a good start.

Re: Newbie Bass
There are some bank spots on the Willy/Columbia. They should come up on a search.
Some lakes to look @ are Lacamas (in vancouver), Hagg in forest grove, Oswego (only a small stretch of bank is open to public).

Re: Newbie Bass
AndreZ - I just picked up this bass fishing hobby this summer. I've spent a lot of time researching bank access spots this summer. I've fished Hagg, Lacamas, Tualatin, Willy, Columbia, Vernonia, Smaller city ponds, Lake Oswego and even ponds near the beach. Only a few spots have really produced any fish this summer but with the fall weather most of the fish have changed their patterns. My recommendation is if you spot a body of water that looks like it might hold fish, to give it a try.
Side note the uglier the spot and the harder to get to, the better it is to fish.
Also browse the posts on this website, its a wealth of information that has proven to hook me up with some nice fish.
Oh one last thing, I wouldn't recommend eating any non migratory fish around here!

Re: Newbie Bass
Click "Search," then "Advanced Search," then put "bank" in "Search by Key Word(s)," then choose "Bass and Panfish" in "Search in Forum(s)," and you will find a ton of info. Unfortunately, the fishing will be slow from the bank from now until about March.

Re: Newbie Bass
go to bi-mart and buy a 9' pontoon for $199,, find a slough, pond, lake whatever and you will double the quantity and quality of your bass,,i still kick myself in the butt for wasting my time driving around in search of fishable bank, trust me its cheaper than buyin a boat right away, and like i said your not up against the pressure.. even though i have a bassin boat i end up walking my toon down into a slough somewhere and the fish are all yours. and theres big fish in these sloughs/farm ponds..

Re: Newbie Bass
Take a look on CL for a trolling motor, I picked one up for $25 and it is great. As for fishing if you get a wa license drive up to Silver Lake in the spring.

Re: Newbie Bass
Hit Hagg Lake now, BUT FISH early. You could land more than 10 bass in an hour or two. If you need help pm me and I can help more on lures and locations!
Roger (The ex-silver lake bass guide)
Hagg lake bass from this year (and I only fished hagg lake once this year) and the fish were caught from the shore!
