Second I know I need my hunting license, upland hip, and a day fee hunt tag, do i need an upland stamp? And is there a way that I can guruntee to get to hunt saturday, should I stay the night? Is there some kind of line you have to wait in or is it just park and walk up? Thanks for any info...

Don't get the wrong information, be sure to read the Game Bird regulations page 14 for E.E. Wilson. You do need an Oregon upland license and upland hip validation plus a fee pheasant tag for $11.50 purchased where licenses are sold. The refuge does get crowded on weekends, there are 4 self service check-in stations where you fill in another refuge permit, one side has address, license number plus vehicle info, this side goes into the drop box and sign, date the other half and keep this with you while in the field and after hunting fill in the hours hunted, number of birds taken and drop this in the box before leaving. If you get a bird, immediately fill in the date and time on the pheasant tag before continuing to hunt or exiting the area.

No need to spend the night, arriving 15 to 30 minutes before shooting time should get you a permit. If you're worried about getting a permit and getting orientated, arrive a little earlier and bring a flashlight to read the map concerning open and closed areas.

good luck,

Gregg

Hookset is right on. I have been working there since Oct. 1. I won't be there this weekend since I have worked the last two weekends there. Mike will be going around and checking all the hunters. If you have any questions he is the one to ask. The birds are split on both sides of the road and spread throughout the refuge. The south side of Camp Adair road is more open, but gets more pressure. The north side has more brush, less pressure, but the same number of birds. There are a lot of birds that start coming out in the open when the morning rush has left the area. I hear shooting all the way up to the 5:00pm deadline when all hunting is over.

Salty Walty and I took the shotguns for a walk out there this morning, and managed to spook up this guy -- or should I say Cody the dog spooked it up for us. It was a nice morning to be out, and there seemed to be a good spread of birds. At least we heard shots from just about every corner of the refuge.

Skein, Thanks for posting the picture. It was a great day to take the guns for a walk. We will have to do this again.

I think Buck might need some psychological attention after being left at home though.

I was there for the first time with my pup this morning. There were lots of people, but this was the only pheasant we saw. We hunted the north end, walked my legs off and the dog is tired, as you can see in the pic. All in all, I would call it a good day.

I managed a week day off work yesterday. Very last minute and unexpected. So, I ran out to EE Wilson yesterday morning. It was a beautiful morning and my two labs and I covered a lot of ground.

We were not lucky enough to kick up any birds but we heard quit a bit of shooting. My black lab was pretty happy with himself, because he found four dead pheasants at various stages of decay.

He thought, "Hmmm, snack!"

Needless to say, when he wanted to give kiss' back at the truck I move away rather quickly.

Even though we didn't get any birds it was a great morning. The dogs had a good time and the pup learned some things. I really enjoyed watching them.
