Just got my CDL...
Now I just need a job. Plenty of places are hiring around town, but I want to know of as many options as I can. I have a spotless driving and criminal record. Home every night, good pay, and benefits are a high priority obviously.
Anyone have any suggestions (or jobs? )

Good luck on the "home every night", but go to the Oregon Employment Department web site and look for available jobs, that might help you.

Mt Hood Beverage in PDX is looking for local delivery drivers to deliver beer, wine and soda to retail accounts in the metro area.

Re: Just got my CDL...
Congratulations, now it's all downhill from here lol. Dont forget to look at craigslist I have seen a few driving jobs on there. It might be tough finding a local job without any experience but thats not to say it cant be done. If you get a local job in Washington state just remember that after 8 hours you are due overtime, some try not to pay it though. If you cant find anything local I know where you can possibly put in an application but its in Beaverton, leave on sunday down to Calif.and back home on Wed evening, motel every night, .40 to .50 cpm and a meal allowance BUT the whole trailer has to be tailgated and can be pretty hard work, not sure if they would take anyone right out of school but ya never know. Good luck let us know how ya do.

Re: Just got my CDL...
Dump truck is not bad to do at least you are at home. It is not a good time of the year for looking for a dump truck job but maybe get lucky. If you are going over the road you should not have too much trouble finding a job. Be careful out there people just love to cut you off so they can get in front of you at the red light coming up, and as on the other posts watch the blind spot.
We had a program at one time called take a truck to school when I worked for Payless/Riteaid that we had kids come and get into a truck so they could see what we can see and then we had cars, bikes and people around the truck so they can see that not everything is visible. I think it was a great program and if it saved one life or one accident it was worth it.

If you get a job in OR be sure to look into the Amtrak law to be exempt from OR income tax.
Nutter Corp looks like a great outfit to work for.
I work for United Salad Co. We are always looking for drivers. PM me if you would like more details.

Try fed Ex freight. My dad drives for them and he has only had his CDL one year. He drives in town.

Re: Just got my CDL...
I have a CDL and drive for United Parcel Service. We hire alot of xtra help this time of the year for the up coming X-mas season. I'm not sure if its too late for this year but I know in the past that we have hired drivers right out of CDL training. It. would only last through the x-mas season but it would give you some drive time and look good on the resume. I know that in the past a few of the x-mas drivers got on with UPS in other cities, (not sure if you would want to relocate) PM if you have any questions

Re: Just got my CDL...
How do you get along with the public? Ever thought about driving a bus or operating a train? The pay isn't that great to start, but there is lot's of overtime, a Union, and great benifits. Plus it only takes a couple of years to make really good money! Or you could skip all that and be on the maintenance side of things where you don't have to deal with the public! and start around $16 dollars an hour but can be making almost double that within a couple of years! www.trimet.org see where it takes you!

Re: Just got my CDL...
look at PGE driving equipment around to different power outages! My cousin does it for a similar company in california and LOVES it. Awesome ovetime pay and you make all the money sitting and waitting to drive equipment back to another location in a warm dry hotel room, granted often without power but dry!

Shoot....police depts are having a hard time finding candidates with spotless driving record and criminal record. Ever think about doing that? Game officer? You could check out the best fishing spots while on duty (without a fishing rod, of course...haha)
