Re: Show us your dog!!
Hmmm dogs,
Now that is a post I can dig into.
Looks like Storm would know a good duck day. He is a good looking dog.
Here is a run down:
Kodi,
My buddy Mike has one hell of a dog (Kodi).
I think Kodi brought back over 225 birds last year, and it was his first “full season” out and about.
Kodi is a dog that will go gown in Duckhound history.
Here he is again with a salted bluebill
Then there is Madison, we all call him “Mace”.
He is run by his master (my buddy Zach)
Zack and Mace have a bond, and have spent the last 8-9 years getting things worked out to the point that they are "One entity".
I do not know anyone that can think a command, hit a whistle and get a dog to do a 180 * turnaround in the current and chop, off of some windswept point on a gigantic river, with a dog bobbing in the waves 90 yards out like Zach can do with his big yellow dog.
Time and tides have bonded them, and they are incredible to watch.
Mace likes a “put the squeeze on a sawbill” just as much as Alex likes to hork on a cormorant.
You guys already know Alex, He can find a bird or a bear, or even a ham sandwich if there is one buried in a canyon,
Once, he fought a Badger and managed to even kill and then consume a cormorant on the beach near Garibaldi. All of the little schulekintern ran for their mothers as Alex ragdolled the big Black bird.
But seriously,
I tried to stop him, apparently, the call of the cormorant was far greater than my own,
He has hunted from the the Tall sage to the sea,
From high at 8500 feet,
Down to where the fresh and salt water meet.
I love dogs.
You can call em any name in the book, and they’ll still eat your chicken strips and give you a sloppy kiss.

My girl training in the front yard. No good action shots yet, with just one hunt under our belt, I tried to focus on the dog and handling her rather than taking pictures.

Here is my Hunting partner for the past decade or so. To say she has saved me a few steps here and there is an understatement.
Here are just a few pics of Cull'er Mags "Maggy" in her prime: She now enjoys warmth of a a nice fire and at age 11 still loves to retreive Drakes.

Re: Show us your dog!!
Here's a pic of my buddy Filson taken last october, just before his 2 year b-day.This was both his and my first attempt at ducking,as well as his first real retrieve.I know it may not seem like much to all you serious duck slayers, but if you look realy close behind the deekes there is an itty bitty green wing teal hen. There would have been more, but those little buggers are kinda hard to hit, especialy for a newbee.Although my duck season came to an early halt last year with only a few hunts for personal reasons,he did manage a few more retrieves,a few mallards and blue bills. He also got in one goose retrieve that my partner shot, and would have had another, except for a goose stealing otter that outswam him from the other side of the pond.
We are curently gearing up for another season,a much better and much longer season that will get under way as soon as I manage to put a couple mammals in the freezer.
I got off work a few hours early on monday and decided take him out instead of looking for that buck I can't seem to locate and managed to get him his first grouse retrieve, and a big ol nose full of feathers(a missed photo op ),but he is getting birdier all the time .
Here's to good dogs, unconditional love and a big nose full of feathers .

Here's Dolly when she was a pup on a pile of stinky camping laundry. She
still loves a good stinky laundry pile.
Here she is curled up in a camp chair. No chair is safe around our campfires!
And here she is when she used to go with us in the boat. Now she just jumps out and is no fun to pull her in.
And here she is after a lakeside fetch session (her all-time favorite activity).

Nigel has no cartilage left in his elbows, so hunting is out of the question.
But boy does he love to work around the farm.
It's a little hard to see the DU logo on his hat.
