Ocean Closure

This morning's Vancouver newspaper said the ocean is to close next week for all salmon and there will be no retention of chinook allowed at buoy 10. Does anyone have any more details on this?? [img]images/icons/confused.gif[/img]

I'm not exactly sure what this all means. It may only apply to ocean fishing, but the Oregon DFW says:

8/22/01 UPDATE: THE LEADBETTER POINT TO CAPE FALCON RECREATIONAL SALMON FISHERY HAS HAD AN ADDITIONAL 20,000 COHO TRANSFERED TO THEIR CATCH QUOTA FROM THE COMMERCIAL TROLL SALMON FISHERY. THIS TRANSFER WAS PROMOTED BY COMMERCIAL FISHERY REPRESENTATIVES TO ASSIST THE RECREATIONAL FISHERY IN AVERTING A CLOSURE TO THE OCEAN RECREATIONAL COHO FISHERY PRIOR TO LABOR DAY. A CONFERENCE CALL IS SCHEDULED FOR 4:30 PM AUGUST 27 TO EVALUATE THE STATUS OF LANDINGS AND CONSIDER WHEN TO CLOSE THE AREA FOR RETENTION OF CHINOOK SALMON.

well thats mighty nice of them to give us some of their fish. I thought the numbers were only in the 60-70% range so far for the ocean quota for sporties. and there is an additional 10,000 being held out on already per the PFMC regs for a targeted september season.
