PM Response, and My COOL fiance!
Someone sent me a private message, and I cant find it here, so here is my reply...yes, I am a real Texan (Dallas, Waco, Houston, San Antonio, Lubbock, Midland). Lived there for ~21 years before moving to Oregon. No, I am not a Native Texan, as i was born in GA, but after 21 years, I qualify.
Also, wanted to let people know i have the coolest fiance ever! I was offered a trip out for salmon at Bouy 10 this Sunday by NorRivDave....problem is that I was already planning on being gone all day Saturday on the Deschutes for big trout. I asked her anyway if she'd mind if I went. Her answer.... "Well, we had an appointment with so and so to discuss wedding things and make some decisions, but I can do that. You go fish, have fun, bring us home a lot of salmon!" I about fell over!!
So, NorRivDave, count me in if the offer is still good!!

Re: PM Response, and My COOL fiance!
The appropriate response should have been,
"We had plans, but let's go fishing instead!"

NOW if you don't catch a fish, you have to stop at Safeway ...
My wife only demands the fresh Dungeness crab ... odds are better

Re: PM Response, and My COOL fiance!
Good point...once I am married I will probably have less freedom.
As for ocean bound fishing, past the bar...what does a newby need to know in advance about this? I've never been deep sea, so Dramamine is a must...but what about general safety, weather concerns, etc.

Re: PM Response, and My COOL fiance!
Y'know, I swear that Dramamine makes me puke.
Safety-wise ... your life is in the skipper's hands, have faith (and wear a PFD). Rain gear, shades and sunscreen.
You'll love it!

You can get the patches at Hi School Pharm. without a prescription now if the ocean rolls your tummy. Just ask the pharmacist and your cost is the amount of copay plus $10 and the balance will be billed to your health plan.

Re: PM Response, and My COOL fiance!
After 10 years in the Navy on the roughest seas on the planet, this is on the level and might really help. Eat about 8 or 9 chewable pepto bismol tablets before you go out. Really keeps the stomach part in check.
Stay away from water or any other liquids until you see how you fair, despite the desire to drink it.
Don't look down for extended periods and find something to focus on, on the beach. NorRivDave sounds like he is seasoned to me so you should be in good hands.
Hey, maybe it will be flat. Try the above and thank me if it works. Let some through for upriver.

Re: PM Response, and My COOL fiance!
I will look into Pepto, patches, whatever. I might be fine...who knows. I'd just hate to be a human cannon all over this guys boat after he was nice enough to let me tag along.
I'll let you know how I fair through all this. Maybe I can get Jennie to post pics of my fish AND my lunch!!

Re: PM Response, and My COOL fiance!
Quit worrying Tex. I have a seat belt for you, and if you wish, I'll strap a bucket to your chin. JK
If you do puke, I'll only take a picture if you turn green. You just better have a rod in your hand when you do it so everybody will know you weren't slack'n.
See you at 4:00!

Re: PM Response, and My COOL fiance!
My suggestions would be as follows.
1. Go out drinking as late as you can the night before. Preferrably Tequila. Make sure you also eat a few of those Jack in the Box deepfried tacos, the monster ones, on the way home.
2. Eat a big breakfast consisting of microwave buritos, smoked salmon, cheap beer and at least one shot of tequila.
3. Forget the Dramamine. That stuff is just some witch doctor mumbo jumbo. Drink enough beer so that you start feeling like you are on a boat, kind of bobbing back and forth. The other guy is driving, so if you want a few more, what the heck, go ahead, have a few more.
4. Most importantly, don't look at the horizon. Look up into the sky, straight up, or better yet just close your eyes.
This method has been used by a few of my friends to initiate new folks to ocean fishing. If they pass this test, they can fish on my boat anytime.
Best of luck Andy

Re: PM Response, and My COOL fiance!
You're supplying the boat, gear, AND the bucket with a chin strap??? Wow...what a host!!
Dont worry Dave, if I puke, I will have a rod in hand, fish on, and will go for a HUGE arc with the vomit.

Re: PM Response, and My COOL fiance!
Besides the patches, aren't there non-prescription Dramamine pills that a person can take? I thought I seen them in the store the other day.

Re: PM Response, and My COOL fiance!
Hey Tex, here is Bigstew's tips for the Big Blue.
1.Don't eat a greasy breakfast.Keep it light!
2.Take pretzels or soda crackers to munch on.
3.Try Draminine chewables.
4.Leave the beer for after the fishing.
5.Try eating watermelon. Tastes good going both ways.
BTW is there really a place in Texas called Lonesome Dove? greatest cowboy movie and book of all time!
Have fun,
Stew
PS-Why is it that brides are always smiling when walking down the aisle? email me for the answer

Re: PM Response, and My COOL fiance!
Hey Tex, I've found that the Chewable Bomine works good for me "orange flavor". Catch & Eat suggested it to me. Works Great!
I'll take one the night before, and then one as I'm headed out the morning of.
That coment about something taisting good going both ways isn't a bad idea.
Good Luck, UB

Re: PM Response, and My COOL fiance!
I think another wise thing would be to stop at Taco Bell the night before and load up and then hit the 24hr drive through on the way to the launch.

Re: PM Response, and My COOL fiance!
I second stew's suggestion of watermelon. You can buy the Maddog 20/20 watermelon flavored; that way you can kill two birds with one stone.
Of course, a real Texan wouldn't be afraid of a little tequila. It's what's for breakfast.......

Re: PM Response, and My COOL fiance!
Lonesome Dove? Doubtful. Then again, there are a LOT of odd names for towns in West TX, so who knows.
BigStew...I know the answer to that, and am praying it is not true!!!

Good taste coming and going...that is a good idea.
