Jack Daniels\' Coho Derby
Does anyone know how big a fish it is going to take to win this contest? I don't want to waste time on Friday running into Hammond if I don't have a good chance of nailing the big bucks.
I haven't heard what size fish have been turned in so far.
Thanks and good luck to those who entered.

Re: Jack Daniels\' Coho Derby
I'm not all that familiar with the contest, as I'm not participating, but I believe it's not the size that matters (sound familiar??) I believe there's a few fish that have been marked or tagged. I kinda glanced at the flyers on my last trip into Fisherman's, and what got me was the wording that if you caught one of the tagged fish, you were ELIGIBLE to win. I'm sure there are those here that know more than I do on this, and by the end of today, you should get more info. You might also want to check you local sporting goods store to see if they have any of the flyers for you to review. Good luck!! Mark

Re: Jack Daniels\' Coho Derby
I'm not sure what it will take to win this derby, but there have been some BIG coho caught this year. I understand KATU's Grant McComie landed one that went 18lbs. Last Saturday, I had just got done filleting one that was easily over 15lbs when one of my partners informed me we were all entered into the derby It would have been fun to at least see how much it actually weighed and where it would have placed against others. Oh well, it will taste great on the barbeque anyway. Besides, I'm waiting for the big money from Saturday's Powerball

Re: Jack Daniels\' Coho Derby
FM,
I thought the same thing you did but was checking my ticket this morning and learned there is also a $1500 prize for the biggest fish. Second place is $500 and third is $250.
I entered because someone told me the $10 went to a good cause. Now, I'm thinking it will result in new kegs at the Jack Daniel's factory. Not being a whiskey drinker, that won't do me much good.

Re: Jack Daniels\' Coho Derby
Last year it took a Silver 17lbs. to win the NSIA Buoy 10 Salmon Challenge. I would imagine that a fish at 20 or more is what it is going to take for the JD Derby as well.Remember there is two tourneys coinciding with one another. The other that NSIA is also sponsoring,is the Salmon Challenge which is a team tourney that starts tomorrow. If your not in it already it should make for some interesting reading. The fish tagged for the JD Derby were tagged last Thursday off the mouth of the Columbia. You just have to catch the right fish !!

Re: Jack Daniels\' Coho Derby
heres the deal the derby and all proceeds are to be given to charity. your 10$ goes to one of 10 tagged fish that have prizes associated with them from 50,000.00 to rods and reels. Chances are pretty slim that you'll catch that tagged fish but good luck.there are 3 big fish prizes 1500 500 and 250.

Re: Jack Daniels\' Coho Derby
so..how did the fish get tagged?
doesn't seem like a tagged coho would stick around long enough to get caught. Is the prize still good if the fish is caught in say Eagle Creek or the Clack?

Re: Jack Daniels\' Coho Derby
I wieghed in a 13 lb coho (gutted and gills removed) on Sunday (looked bigger to me). Up to that day the largest fish so far rang in at 16 lbs (gutted) over in Astoria. If you don't have something at least that I wouldn't waste your time.
