Default Monday ocean report, open seats for Tuesday, Newport

Took Barb to Newport rtoday to do some crabbing, lazy day planned, just crab for a few hours and return to Corvallis, maybe lunch and dink with the boat a little bit. so I'm driving over the bridge this morning and the bar and the ocean are FLAT!!!! Whoa nellie! and the bar is UNRESTRICTED! So we drop the crab pots and go ove the bar. Now I promised Barb we wouldn't have a long day and she has a history of back problems, so I had to be careful. Fish out by the buoys looking for chinook gathering to come in, didn't get any hits. But we were both enjoying the ocean, big swells, but very smooth and long periods. high tide was at 10, we came back in at noon, the bar was still nice, some standing waves in the outgoing water between the jetties, but still nice.

So I'm going back tomorrow, hoping to get an earlier start and fish off Waldport for a few hours. Assuming of course that the ocean is nice enough to do so and the CG hasn't restricted the bar. So I have some open seats for salmon fishing tomorrow, hopefully in the ocean! Tomorrow has about the same wind forecast as today, an easterly component to the wind in the morning, helps lay down the swell. Today was absolutely wonderful, warm and sunny all day. Barb had taken lots of clothes since she gets cold very easily, she never put on the warmest ones and had to take some layers off because she was warm. I'm hoping for the same type of weather tomorrow and that's the forecast!

OK, so pm me if you'd like to go and can go. You could meet me either in Corvallis, Philomath, or Newport. No guarantees on how long the day will be, but we'd be back before dark for sure and most likely sometime in the afternoon. High tide is 10:30 am tomorrow, low tide is 5 pm. PM me if you have questions, but Silverfish and I are fairly well known on the board. I'm willing to answer any questions about the boat, me as a skipper, or the trip tomorrow. I'm hoping not to fish alone as I feel much safer with two or more of us aboard and I enjoy the company and also enjoy sharing the wonders of being out there!

Oh, and we got 3 chinook on Sat. the 13th of Oct. I want to get some tomorrow too!

Jump on this offer, Dogs. Ron is one fine skipper, fisherman, and guy. The silverfish is a great fishing platform. I would be there for sure, but for the fact that I decided to accept an offer to go back to work for a bit. Oh, the almighty dollar - what we sometimes give up to pursue it. Good luck out there, Ron.
