Default Some People Bum Me Out When It Comes Fishing

Well,

I have something to get off my chest that will probably lead me not to post too much on this forum ever again...

I just read the following quote on the "Spooled Who Cares About the Numbers" post...

Quote:
quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Way to Go Spooled.

The post from the fellah with 14 days off in a row & a Slaughter on the 10 th really hit the nail for me, but I bit my tongue.

I enjoy tying my own rigs, rags, spinners. the crowds I can do without. I was reminded this year why I ussually don't bother to fish for Chinook. I think I'll wait for the natives, all the meat fishers should be off the river by then.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">I pretty much know this comment was directed twords me...If it was, so be it...Being judged by people who don't know me will not deter me because in the big picture it doesn't matter. Since I have become active on Ifish, I have welcomed several Ifishers on my boat trips as well as provided what I feel is some good fishing information about techniques & tactics along with a little Kentucky Hillbilly Humor and just good company...

I for one am not a boaster because lord knows, I am not nearly as good as advertised...I have just been blessed by meeting some people who have really took the time to show me the ropes as it pertains to catching...In addition, I have given allot back to the fishing community in my volunteer service over the years (I served 3 Years as President of the TV Chapter of the NW Steelheaders and was a board member for 5 years.)I am just wondering if that is what is making this person bite his tounge...I also don't want to mention the amount of donations I have given to this orginization for restoration & enhancement projects....

I always posted my reports in good taste...It truly disappoints me that people can't be happy for other people catching fish and reporting it in order to help people out...My 2 week Metal Head Mayhem was one of the best 2 weeks of my life because I really got to spend some quality time with my son who has turned the corner in his life and I felt so proud that I would share some of this with the Ifish family...I suppose I regret doing that now since I obviously came accross as a bragger and "Meat Hauler." I don't know if some of you saw my last post but we met a couple of cool Ifishers "Shark Bait" & "Wynot," ask them if I am making them bite their tounge...

For this reason I will definately be keeping myself from reporting...

Oh by the way...for the record...during my 2 week vacation...I fished McNary Dam 2-days and trolled Wiggle Warts with another Ifisher & great friend now (LEO aka "Luredragger") and the other 11 days I fished the Wilson River at Duycks with close Ifisher friends (Drift Fishing & Fishing with Jigs)... There you go...now there is a report that you can remember me by...

As for the person I made bite his tounge...don't prejudge me...it really torques me that people can do this without knowing another person...

And oh by the way...don't count on me not being down there when the Nativis arrive...If it swims, I will be fishing for it...

For any of you that needs to get in touch with me...just send me an email as it is under my profile....

Hoghunter,
Don't let it bother you. When posting what one is trying to say often comes across wrong. I know I've stepped on my own &lt;petuna&gt; more than once

KHH, too bad you feel that you must stop. :depressed:

I have truly enjoyed your reports and your seemingly unlimited zest for our sport.

I think that the majority of people feel the same way.

It's a shame that a few vocal people can cause you to change your actions.

I still don't understand why people choose to read the so called "bragging" posts if they bother them.

I think that it is rather simple DO NOT OPEN THE THREAD if you don't want to see them.

I do want to see them. Keep posting, all of you guys, 5-cents, Zaq, KHH, and the rest of you!

I really appreciate it!

I hope that you dont stop posting. I started coming to this site to hear about fishing success, failure, close calls and whatever else people have to say pertaining to fishing. There are always going to be people out there that don't like one thing or another. It makes no difference someone will take something wrong, or not like the way someone does business. It does not mean people should not post, and it certainly does not mean it should phase you. If you catch fish, let us know! I personally never get tired of hearing success stories! Its great to see people catching fish, and hearing about the good times they had. If someone does not like hearing about a fishing adventure, they should probably not bother reading any posts, because I was under the impression that that is what this site was. I persoanlly enjoyed going to your posts and seeing the fish you caught. And I enjoy going to everyones posts and seeing those great fish they have caught. It inspires to me get out and fish, and gives me hope when I get skunked almost every time lately! People are just too quick to get judgmental and ****y for one reason or another, and there is no reason to. Just like in life, when people ***** you just have to go about your life. Don't let it bug you. I hope you keep those posts coming and dont stop just because of a few people getting bent out of shape for no reason. Hope to see those posts in the future.

As I stated on the other post, I support your postings. I have enjoyed reading them and the photos. Please don't stop participating because a couple people didn't like it.

Deep breaths everybody. Because of Jennie's evil prayers we are all housebound, frozen up and suffering from cabin fever. It will all be O.K., especially when those springers start swimming up the rivers. Be cool.

hey KHH, one thing i and probably many have learned on ifish is to not let things on here get to you. It is hard not to let little things bother you but having a thick skin here will allow you to enjoy this place better. Shrug it off and keep posting. Post with humbleness in mind like you have been. We all have egos to feed we just do it better than some.

KHH,

I must say I have really enjoyed your posts. I also enjoyed the fact that you were with your son and the excitement around that came through in your reports.

Please don't let something written by someone you don't know get you down. I would be honored to share your company on a river.

If you ever make to Alaska please look me up. We can do a little fishing.

KHH, don't go dude. It's guys like you that share your adventures that make the site worth while. Don't punish the rest of us for someone that is being a stick in the mud. Those that don't want to hear your stories are just jealous and don't catch fish. They need a mommy and a big rubber thumb to suck on. "The needs of the many outweigh the few". Don't let the few shut you down. That goes for anyone else that posts pictures and stories for us to enjoy.

Hey KHH.....This is a computer bulletin board. So why let a couple idjits ruin what you enjoy (posting) and what others enjoy (reading your posts) So who cares if you get 14 days off in row to fish? I get 15 days off a month! I also make a crapload of money and I just bought a new boat. Yes....I'll be posting pictures and reports, and for the 1, 2 or 15 out of the 5000-20000 users of this board don't like it, well they don't have to look! I will be posting open seats, and if the people that don't like my posts want a ride, I'll welcome them.

Jeez, seen a lot of (nice word) on this board lately....seems alot of people have cabin fever or the mother-in-law that came to visit for the holidays are still in their house.......

I think I'm in a wierd mood today, must be because I can't go fishing, so bear with me.
KHH, keep posting, don't let a few people ruin it for you, blah, blah, blah. That stuff is played out, no offense to anyone, but we've all heard it before. I know what you're going through, just look at my first post, I almost bailed on this place before I even knew what it was. I just don't know why you let it get to you. IT'S AN INTERNET FORUM and it just doesn't matter. It took someone saying that for me to realize it too. Seriously, do you REALLY care if someone you don't know wants to bad mouth you on the internet to a bunch of people who don't care. Most of us on here think the whole thing is stupid anyway. The he said, she said crap was played out in high school and most of us on here realize that and chalk those kind of posts up to the "Guys that can't grow up" category. So chill out, don't let it bother you, and don't play in to other people's little games. Jennie, can we get another forum on here "Gossip, Rumors, and Trash Talk"? That way all the high schooler's (no offense, I'm just messin' around) and people that want to act like they are still in high school will have a place to go. Grow up people, or better yet, go fishin'.
KHH, this is by no way meant to be an attack on you, I understand why you're ticked but I just think you shouldn't play into it. Do you honestly think that the people that say these things behind the protection of their computer screen would really have the balls to say any of it to your face? I highly doubt it.
So, do I get in trouble now?

I sure will be glad when the sringers start coming. We all need something better to do then sit around worrying about things like this. I think it is just that time of year, the cold temps, the snow and the wind aren't helping matters much. You have to admit, you gotta laugh at what some people say on here. It takes all kinds, fortunately there are a lot fewer of them.

Hog Hunter... Ditto the above....
I just finished an almost 2 week strech of vacation also... fished almost every day.(I didn't know I was doing something wrong)
Earlier in the year, I had the pleasure of joining you on a no fish day on the John Day so I know not all your reports are so succesful.. but you tell it like it is. I learned a lot that day and also through other posts you have shared.
Keep up the good work...I'll be looking for your report on your Derby success

KHH, Don't sweat it man. Theres always going to be those people that no matter what you do you can't make happy. If you were to post a report and not any pics, they'd ask were the pics are.

I met you somewhat last thur as I was going to take out at donaldson, My buddy and I were in a my fishcraft thats green w/ gold writng. We just spoke a few words as we went by but by no means were you tight lipped.

I just got another digital camera(last one broke) and I'm going to post all sorts of pics. I could care less what the people complaining have to say because I know they are the minority.

Think about it, theres a small group of people that gave all the Carrots a hard time about "bragging", from the sounds of things people are giving Ty a hard time about "bragging" and now you also.

I look foward to your post and just keep on keepin' on. Theres alot more important things out there to worry about. Keep posting and letting us see all those pics.

Just remeber the majority like seeing your posts. If I don't want to read something I don't click on it. It's not that hard.

Hope to see yuh again,
Later Geoff

Dont lose the excitement of looking over the sides of the boat to see what swims by! Dont forget to tell us all about it! Leave the rest to fish alone and in peace.

Well there you have it Terry, can you feel the love now? I enjoy everyones reports on this board and I love to see pics of dead fish. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say your reports give me that fishing fix during the week when I can't get out that keep me sane (ok so i've never been sane) If I could get 2 weeks off and fish every day I most definately would, and the fact that you and hog hunter jr. get to spend time like that is awesome. You just keep doing what you're doing and next week when you recieve the baton I will be happy to console you some more

I for one log onto this and other NW fishing boards just to read reports like yours. I rarely get out on the rivers these days and have to live vicariously through the successful fishing of others. Without posts like yours, this board would not be nearly as good as it is. Please keep up the great posts and pictures.

Dont let a very, very small minority of dopes ruin your day. Believe you me I know how you feel and it's just not worth it. Those people that bad mouth you will just bad mouth someone else (me  ) when you are gone. Learn what I learned to post it up there and take your hits. You cant make everyone happy and guess what, you should not have to worry about making everyone happy! The people that complain will always be the lowdest but I know that many, many people enjoy your posts and pictures so keep it up.

I think it is great that you shared your fishing time with your son, it is very heart warming to see the love that you have for him. I wish I was so lucky to have a dad like you  Seeing how you have rebuilt your relationship with him and your willingness to to share it should be an inspiration to everyone

Oh, one last thing to all you grumps out there... THIS IS A FISHING BOARD, YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO POST PICTURES AND REPORTS. IF YOU DONT LIKE IT LEAVE!

Let me tell you all about KHH. We meet him on the river for the first time last week and a few hours later further downstream he is inviting us to anchor next to him to share in his success. (which he kept demonstrating again and again )
Now, how often does that happen!
He's got my appreciation and respect through his actions.
Post your pics!

KHH-

I like the pics and reports.

Trust that some of us have been in your shoes more than once on this BB. It seems that there's always one in the crowd that wants to rain on your mayhem.

Don't let 'em bring you down man.

Just keep on fishing and posting those pics, that's why Ifish is here.

I personally do not mind seeing other people's success. From what I have seen you are a great person that has contributed much to this site. You even offered me a spot a while back to hit the John Day with you but I wasn't able to make it. Keep posting, and if people give you crap, just e-mail me the pics and stories! Someone has to catch those pesky little slime rockets...

I know for myself I am Jealous with as good as the fishing has been I would have loved to have the last two weks off. When was the last time the peak of the run coincided with good water conditions. I encourage everyone to get out as much as possible and to do as much meat hunting as they can on hatchery winter steelhead. I believe that doing so has an excellent impact on our wild runs by eliminating hatchery fish from the system before they spawn.

One thing about crowds people don't seem to understand is that if you are on a "crowded" river you are as much a part of the problem as anyone else.. If you want to fish river X don't complain about other people wanting to fish river X.

Sure we all love fishing water no one else has been in that day and I have found that thoes willing to do the leg work can find such water VERY easily.
For instance the last few weekends i have been fishing the Elochoman river with good success. This is a VERY popular river and for it's size it has a ton of pressure but within 5 minutes of arriving on stream I was always fishng a run that hadn't been fished all day.
Take the Cowlitz as another example year after year no river has more angler days per river mile. I bet none even come close. Yet there is a ton of water on that river that both holds fish and never gets fished..
I have seen this everywhere I have been in my life people who complain about crowded conditions are just people who lack the imagination and innitiative to get off the beaten track and explore..

Kentucky.. I encourage you to stay and ignore thoes people who are bothering you..

Don't let that guy ruin your day Terry.

The great majority of us enjoyed the heck out of your posts and all your other pointers you've shared over the past several months.

Keep it up. All the friends you've made recently, not to mention the time spent with your boy, far outweight this bad seed.

Kentucky, keep you posts coming and the overwealming majority of us will continue to enjoy them!

I like to hear stories of a father & son enjoying time together on the river. My son is still a little young yet so I have enjoyed hearing your stories.

They have made me look foward to the time I will spend fishing with my boy! Thank You!!

KHH I myself really enjoyed your posts. I live vicariously through ifish as I am "on call" most weekends and have to spend some quality time with my family. I used to live on the coast and would fish all the time. Now I am on the other side of the hill and it is a 2 hr drive to any steelhead river, minimum. I got a new drift boat this spring and have used it once, to "try it out" on the deschutes. All three of the weekends I was able to go.....it snowed, and snowed, and snowed. Some day soon though I hope to be the one posting the pictures and telling the stories. Until then, all the pics and stories will have to sufice. Keep on keepin on. Mike.

i'm just a novice here, but don't let someone else rule your life. if they don't like you, don't like what you do or what you say, that is totally their problem. people reflect anger when they are jealous, and you can't let it get to you. send him a prescription for prozac, it'll help with his anxiety....

Jennie, Maybe this post should be relabelled "Hog Hunter Has Hurt Feelings !"

KHH, You must feel better by now !

Don't let my post "Bum You out", Obviously the green monster got the best of me, after all, 2 weeks of fishing everyday was more than I could bear, throw in the slaughter and I was apparently off to the races. I did not read any of your post, so the thing about your son wasn't even on my radar. Back to the Green monster, I wacked 2 steelhead last year, and released 4. and I thought I had a great year. Gets better, even though I was skunked 2 weeks ago today, I won't be going fishing for at least three more weeks due to modified shift at work, WAAAH !, I can only log on and longinly look at your's and others pics and build more spinners, tie more rags, make slinkies, and practice my casting with the levelwind.

No Offense, but get over yourself,

and oh-yeah

GET BACK TO WORK !

Peace, Spinner53

Terry,

If you're disillusioned by the fishing board, lets go on a duck or goose hunt so we can post some dead duck/goose pics on the hunting board!!!
Don't sweat it! You are a class act, a good fisherman, and all around good guy!

OKAY KIDS...STOP IT!

Geeez, I know 5-cents well. As a matter of fact, I have spent days, yup numerous days fishing with him. He counts fish. It used to bug the *&^# out of me. I don't count fish...Well, I guess I did when we first fished together because I felt the need to "compete." It really bothered me. After a while, I just started laughing it off and just enjoyed his company, humor & knowledge. Also, he brought me out of the "Bait" and was very very instrumental in teaching me how to flyfish.
5-cent's is also correct about the "Season Total" post. It was the "big" post last year & there was one the year before too. He was just doing the annual duty of count totals. Who cares? I just saw it, saw the writer & laughed. We all fish for different reasons. All are right (well, almost anyway)..I don't count or keep totals, some do. Oh sure, I had a 18 steelhead day on the Trask (it was a 1/2 day mind you) and I've also has 18 days with 0 fish. Who cares? If some people want to use this as a forum, tool, enertainment, resource center, knowledge sharing & meeting place for friends to share stories, well...then there you go! It IS ALL THAT!

Now STOP THIS CRAP & Fish!

All you bad apples have obviously never had the opportunity to fish with the "HOG HUNTER!" Not only is this guy a pretty darn good fisherman, he's one heck of a nice guy to boot! Yes, he attended KKTU (Kentucky Knot Tying University) thus making me cracker my fish off at the boat I'll never let you live that one down buddy!

Keep posting away Terry! I like to see my ugly mug in some of those pics too  Those who don't want to see or hear fishing reports can cure that easy enough...DON'T CLICK ON THE TOPIC!!! This is a FISHING board. It's supposed to be about reporting, posting pics, & telling about the one that got away. Sheesh people...get out of the house. Play in the snow or something!

 WOW! The first time that I don't visit Ifish for more than 24 hours and look what happens.

To all of the "complainers" out there who like to with and gripe about the more successful Ifishers and their stories - This ones for you:

Last year was my first year fishing for anything bigger than trout in about 10 years. It is safe to say that if there weren't so many pics and stories from those who can, those of us who can't wouldn't even know what some of these species of fish look like!

KHH I sincerely hope that the few problem children don't ruin it for the rest of us. I would extend the same to 5-Cents and the rest of the Carrot Clan, et al. Keep the stories coming.

Here's to hoping that we meet again.

Andrew

First Off, I want to thank everyone who has posted to this thread in a positive way...

Seems like there is one of these every quarter or so and I am somewhat embarrased that I am the one that stirred this up...

I just sent the following message to the person that "Ruffled my Feathers" and I honostly don't wish that individual any ill will or hope none of you do as well...

The individual stood up and made things right and this does say something about ones character when they do this...

I know this...ask "Fear No Fish"

If you care to read this here is what I sent him...

Quote:
Listen,

You stood up here and I acknowledge that...

I have stuck my foot in my mouth several times and have gone back and realized that my comments may be sensitive as well so I made things right by publicly apologizing for my foot insertion into my mouth...

I don't get to fish everyday or as many days as most...I had some time off during the Chrismas season and very well deserved since I spend allot of time away from my family traveling with my job...

Believe me, I was planning on fishing hard and taking advantage of the great conditions as well as mending a relationship I have with my son...

My boy was a troubled youth teen who never used to get things right, wouldn't go to school, smoke pot all the time and truly headed down a one way collision course with death....

Enter me...hard nosed, defiant...Sober since 1989...that was a recipe for a non productive relationship and believe me...that what we had...

Enter the Oregon National Guard Youth Challenge ...My son attended that from June till December and now it is like a tranformation for him & I...he earned his credits and he is going back to school to graduate early...and most of all he is also reaching out to mend our relationship...

Now you know the story and may understand why I am a little sensitive because I am trying to teach him that there is more to a fishing trip than the catching...I am just proud to have him spending a day with me, tcatching any fish is secondary...If we do catch a fish...he is smiling and that in turns makes me happy & proud...

Listen...No hard feelings...
<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">Thats all...listen I appreciate the feedback & if anything comes out of this...motivate yourself to spend time with your kids because that time is short & precious and you need to take advantage of it...
