Default Insurance question

I recently bought a commuter car so I will be leaving the tow vehicle parked in the drive way 80% of the time. I'm wondering what level of insurance others keep on their trucks when they are sitting as much as mine? All of our vehicles are owned so full coverage is not required, but they are also worth over what I would comfortabley self insure.

For me it is a question of what I can fix or affordably self insure. My limit is $5,000. So a 2000 dodge neon I will just carry liability. A 2004 F350 will be fully insured even if it sits.

You might look into low millage plans. On my truck I have it set up where I get a lower rate if I keep my millage down. I think it is 10k /year

You may also want to look into a "suspense" option. Depending on who you are with, you may be able to "suspend" coverage when not in use and only pay the comprehensive portion of your policy. This could have a huge savings on your premiums. There are some conditions that would need to be met but you can discuss those with your agent if that is a option that they offer.

I think you can also put your truck in "storage" and it costs like $50 for six months. Then, when you plan to use it, call your insurance company and let them know what days your using the rig and then they basically prorate your cost
