Default Questions about an old reel ?

I happened to dig up an old reel my dad had left me. Its a direct drive, were the handle turns while casting and when reeling. It doesnt have a level wind. I think they used to call them knuckle busters. Its made by the Bronson Reel Co. in Bronson, Michigan. This model is the Jolly Rodger and holds 250 yds. This info came from under the reel seat. If you know anything about this reel like , How old?, Is it worth anything?, Have you ever used one? I sure would like to hear from you ,Thanks.....Fishhead Vic

According to Jellison and Homel's "Antique and Collectible Fishing Reels" your Bronson Jolly Roger Bay Reel 250 has a value of about $20 in excellent condition. But I'll bet it could tell some stories.

Thanks Thumper for the reply. Its in good shape and I have thought about trying it out for the heck of it just to see how the ol'timers used to do it. Have you ever tried one? I'd like to know a little about how to use one if I ever get the notion. How do you keep from being knuckle busted? What pound test line does that 250 yds. mean? How old is it, what years were they made? You seem to know much more than I do about this reel. Thanks for anymore info!!!!
