A dry shot
I did a slight search and had a hard time with a key word and to no avail.
I was just wondering what some of you do to keep the inside of your barrels dry during a down pour while hunting and hiking. Other than just simply keeping the muzzle downward.

Re: A dry shot
Black electrictians tape. I don't worry about water too much, but plugging up your barrel with snow could be a real bad deal.

Electricians tape works good. The vapors of the bullet leaving blow a hole through it so zero accuracy is lost.

Re: A dry shot
I solved the problem of moisture in the barrel very simply and inexpensively.
Go to any drug store and ask the clerk where they keep "finger cots". They basically are tiny condoms intended to keep injured fingers from getting wet. The slide on easily (I feel trouble coming on!! :grin and completely disintegrate once the rifle is fired. Perfect solution for about $2.00!
OK, have at me!

Re: A dry shot
They sell barrel covers at most sporting goods stores. I've also gone the cheap route and bought a bag of water balloons. They work great, and the extras get loaded for their intended purpose.

I'm putting those on my BiMart list - - dang, I just came from there. Mostly just for our muzzlestuffers, we've used black electricians tape for years and it works fine. The little black balloons they sell (are they TC??) are useless - - they are so fragile they often don't hold-up during installation, not to mention trying to rely on them in the field. And, I've looked and looked for other very small balloons without success. Don

Re: A dry shot
Shoot the gun.
You'll blow/burn out the moisture.

Re: A dry shot
The finger cots to work great as does elec tape. In a pinch I used the finger off an extra pair of latex gloves and thats work very well too.

I've used black electrical tape for years. Wrap some extra around your barrel to replace after you shoot!

Re: A dry shot
Thank you for all the replies. The finger cots sound great. I also thought of dot masking tape. I was curious if any of this would change the flight of the bullet at let say 450 yards, but it sounds like it would not. Come to think of it after remembering the slow motion bullet footage that we sometimes see on T.V., the gas always exits first. Finger cots will be on my shopping list as well.
