OK, here it is. This has been driving me crazy for a long time and now hopefully it's up to my fellow ifishers to help me out, if possible.
The last two or three years now there is a guy who parks his "trashed" white VW Beetle on Mountiandale Road where it overlooks the Sunset Highway (North Side) Some of you may remember the huge "USA" grass sculpture on a hillside as you drove to the coast. That's gone, but Beetle Man now parks his "car" below it darn near every day and just sits there like a zombie during every minute of daylight. I drive by there about once a week to visit a friend of mine and 99 times out of 100, there he is slumped over the steering wheel, with glassy eyes just starring over the field adjacent to the Sunset Highway.
He is not breaking any laws or the Sheriff would have moved him by now, but I am really curious if anyone else has noticed him, and especially if anyone knows anything about him. (Even the locals are curious, but like me, are too mystified to stop and talk to him. (Nope, he is not dead...he leaves every day when it gets dark.)
I could go on, but if you have seen Beetle Man, or can enlighten me on "what gives" with this guy, I would be very appreciative. (I know, it's none of my business, but...)
Now that I've posted this story, look for yourself as you head to or from the coast this fall/winter season. Without fail, Beetle Man will be there looking at you!!!
