Golf club ? Which clubs to carry?
Alright I know there's got to be a few die hard golfers on here. I used to play a lot of golf, probably twice a week. I even had my handicap down to 5 at one point. These days I don't play as much, but I still love the game. I'm thinking about purchasing a new set of irons, Mizuno MP-60. So my question is which clubs would you guys throw in the bag? Here is what I'm thinking. I'm thinking about purchasing a 4-PW and having them all bent 1* stronger than normal for loft. Then dropping my 3 wood and picking up 2 hybrid clubs in different lofts. Then adding a 50*, 54*, and 58* wedge. To me this seems like a very different set makeup, but I think it could work well. What do you guys think? Give me some feedback here, good or bad.

Re: Golf club ? Which clubs to carry?
Personally I like the standard set with a good wedge. I couldn't live without my 3 wood, but could throw away my 1-2 iron as I've never hit them worth a darn... still try though occasionally, mostly at the range. I have some hybrids like trouble woods. I dont see the point in it to be honest, and would rather hit something i'm more used to and keep it as simple as possible.

Re: Golf club ? Which clubs to carry?
I carry pretty close to that in my bag. 4-AW + 54 & 56 wedges. Threw out my 3 & 5 woods and picked up 18 & 21 degree hybrid. Wouldn't change a thing about what clubs I'm now carrying. Now just need to figure out how to get that little white ball to go straight!

Re: Golf club ? Which clubs to carry?
I hit my first hybrids this last spring and was very impressed with them to say the least. The hybrids won't really replace a 3W for me because of my distance and I generally hit my 3W very well. I currently carry three wedges, three-four woods depending on the course and the tee boxes I'm playing, a putter, and and a 3-9 iron (dependent on which woods I carry). I would love to replace my 3I, 4I, and maybe even my 5I with hybrids as I really loved hitting them. They are much easier to hit than long irons and are forgiving. I think you will love hitting a hybrid so much that you will be happy sitting 200 yard to the stick with water to carry.
These hybrids are the real deal! They are the first clubs that I've ever hit that really got me excited enough to the point that I almost broke out the plastic.
Good luck with your decision.

Re: Golf club ? Which clubs to carry?
I work at a Driving Range and am in Club Sales. We sell the Mizunos. those mp 60's are good clubs! they just came out with the Mp-57's too.
anyway, I keep a Driver, 3W, two hybrids, 4-SW with a 58 degree spin-milled wedge. I have this, because I can open it up and use it as a 60 degree, or just close it down for a strong, low shot.
just my $.02

Re: Golf club ? Which clubs to carry?
I just use a set I got from a guy off craigs list. I bought it for 10 bucks. What I got was a golf cart, bag, glove, gobs of balls and tees, divit fixer, some quarters and for the clubs I got 1 #1 WOOD, #3 WOOD, 3 IRON, 2 - 5 IRONS, 6 IRON, 7 IRON, 8 IRON, 9 IRON, SAND WEDGE and 1 PITCHING WEDGE. It was a steal! (I forgot to mention I found a gift card inside to the local golf store). Other than maybe getting some new woods I wouldnt mind getting a 68 d wedge.
Now, I dont really know what I am doing but play golf off n on. I got 39 at Hartwood the other day (hartwood is a 9 hole par three if you havent been there) And, I havent sliced or lost a ball in at least the last 8 games. So to me, I like my clubs I got and when I can play like a champ im gonna get me some new ones. LOL

Re: Golf club ? Which clubs to carry?
those MP60'S are very slick....but, if you have never played blades you should probably think very hard about your purchase...
MP 60's are not for the faint of heart, or the occasional player.
I play the MP's, BUT my handicap is a +1...and I can barely play them consistently...I have an older set of blades. The MP-60's. Have you looked at the PINGS, or the titleists?
My wedge array is as follows;
52, 56 and a 58...
I do not carry hybrids...YET.

Re: Golf club ? Which clubs to carry?
I carry a 3 iron, 9 iron, and a putter. It has not affected my game, in the least, and I can't see packing the extra weight around from all the other clubs.

I know blades can be tough and aren't for the occassional player. I am, unfortunately, these days the occassional player, but I think my ball striking is well above the "occassional" player level. I play the Ping I3+ irons now, but nothing has ever felt as good as a Mizuno to me. Something about hitting them solid, what a feeling. I have played blades in past, first good set of clubs were Henry Griffiths blades. I then migrated to the Titleist DCI 990's, then to my current clubs.

I'm not familiar with "blades". What are they? Why are they hard to hit?

Re: Golf club ? Which clubs to carry?
Blades are usually forged and have no "cavity back" thus making them less forgiving and a much smaller sweet spot. The average golfer does not consistently hit the sweet spot on a golf club and thus needs a more forgiving club. I believe that the sweet spot on most "blades" is about the size of a dime.

Re: Golf club ? Which clubs to carry?
I have 06 Callaway "Big Bertha's" in my bag....If you can hit them no "tweaking" is needed ! A hybrid is just a short fairway wood with a slightly different loft. There are clubs in my bag that I just don't use because of how I play the game....That's just how it is. My Taylormade R7 driver is mostly to blame for that These are the clubs I use the most.... Driver, 8,9 or 1 of 2 wedges.....3 or 5 fairway club as second shots for par 5's. and of course my putter. So that's at most 8 clubs. Except for my driver...I try to hit each club with the exact same swing/club head speed....just adjust the club and the distance you can hit the club.

Re: Golf club ? Which clubs to carry?
I carry a 10.5 degree Driver, fairway wood 3 thru 9 iron 52,56, and 60 degree wedge. I found as I get older I am lossing accuracy of the tee, so I went to a 426cc 10.5 driver and it made alot of difference. Its made up for the some of the distance I lost and I keep the ball in play. Same with my 3 wood, I had weight added to it, made a big difference.

Re: Golf club ? Which clubs to carry?
I use hybrids instead of fairway woods. You might be able to order the Mizuno clubs in the lie angle you desire. I would be careful about having them adjusted after you purchase them, I ordered my Nike clubs 3 deg flat. My sons clubs are 7 deg. flat. Before I ordered our clubs, we were fitted by a golf fitter at our local course. He helped determine what lie angle we should use based on our swing. I dont think you can get a good fitting at most of the local golf retailers. g/l

Re: Golf club ? Which clubs to carry?
I would not drop the three wood.I have a G-2 driver & G-2 three wood, and a set of titliest blades, and three wedges. It all depends on how far you move the ball off of the tee, which markers you usually play from,What type of courses you play, high end low end public, championship.I've played the game for 30 years and worked at courses since I was eleven. The clubs are only as good as the person who is holding them. Golf Course Maintainence and club technology have come a long way.Control the driver ,hit it deep & straight, control your irons, master your short game, you will be a 5 again.Just enjoy the day and the way the course plays on that perticular day.Oh this is off the subject but everyonce in awhile it would't hut to give the Golf Course Superintendent a little praise THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!We are making the conditions .

Re: Golf club ? Which clubs to carry?
Keep the 3-wood the hybrids pretty much replace your 2iron - 5iron if you get two different lofts, i have the pinemeadow hybrids (knockoff nike rescue clubs) cant remember the loft right now but use them anywhere between 250-180 yards, could probably even drop the 6-iron if i didnt hit it so good on those long par-3's. Pine meadow also makes a nice set of irons and they are a local company, or check out fiddlers green down in eugene i have been using there custom irons for about 10 years now and love them. They will let you demo them all and then tune them to your swing if you buy from them.

My bank account is very glad I don't play golf any more. Fishing is a lot less expensive!

Re: Golf club ? Which clubs to carry?
I would only carry the clubs that hit the ball straight.
it's easy after you figure that one out!
