Gentlemen...
and I use that term lightly--this is a SERIOUS ISSUE. The potential for a catastrophic accident is very real at Bouy 10. Yeah, many of you are laughing, thinking, "if I my boat were to go down at bouy 10, I'd just step into another boat". Well my friends, consider this. You've had a couple of beers (or not, you could be the victim), and somehow (you fill in the myriad scenarios possible) you tangle with another boat. The current is ripping at, oh, say 6 knots (under the right conditions, it reaches 12). Maybe you are smarter than the average guy and have your float coat on. Well, with all those props out there churning water, I reckon it would be a minor miracle if you were yarded into another boat before you were fileted. This is no BULLSH!T!!! Don't drink and boat, no matter what the temptation. I like to drink as much as ...well, lets just say I shouldn't be real proud about it. But that's beside the point...what I am getting at is, if you want to party, wait till you are safe onshore. It would be smart if you waited till you were at your destination as well. You know folks, THEY are watching us, and it only takes a couple of A$$HOLES to screw things up for the majority. Boat safe, and if you want to party after the trip call me. I'll bring the whiskey.

Re: Gentlemen...
Very well put
I am not old enough to drink yet
But I have seen many drunk boaters
And I have had to tell one guy at scappose bay that the reason his boat wasent going anywhere was because he was about ohhh. 20 yards on the WRONG side of the marker He finally got his boat outa the mud and drove over to talk to us. His boat was filled with beer cans and we could smell him from about 20 feet away.
thie point
DONT DRINK AND BOAT!

Re: Gentlemen...
Crazinees, that's what fishing on the line is all about, the buoy 10 line. Boats running to fast and close to other boats. Large boats almost swamping smaller boats, boaters running through trollers like an obstacle course. Can you say UGLY!!
Compounded by drinking makes this scene even worse. Very good advice WildHawg.
Last I heard, 10 boats down so far this year on the line. Be careful out there people.
Thanks for the reminder,
Gregg

Re: Gentlemen...
Good advice. Here's my $0.02. If it is Sunday to Thursday drive right past B-10 and go to green #1. It never ceases to amaze me how folks will fish on the roughest, most hazardous and most crowded stretch of the Columbia because of a percieved fear of the bar. Don't get me wrong. The bar is feared for a reason.
On a calm day in a good boat with enough gas anyone can fish the ocean off The Columbia. The best part is it is not crowded, usually much calmer and way better fishing to boot. I don't fish B-10 unless I have to. It's just too crazy. If I sink my boat it will be because I screwed up not because some non boat driving fool ran me down.
Just a thought. Be safe and try the less trampled waters you'll be happy you did.

Re: Gentlemen...
Agree 100% with WildHawg, keep the alcohol in the cooler until the boat hits the trailer!!! This past week was my first experiance doin' the Buoy 10 shuffle. What I can say about it is that it took two days (Thursday and Friday) to figure it out and then on Sunday we got right into the middle of the mosh pit at the line (2nd boat from the Buoy), all I can say is it was a blast!!! Nothin' like 500 boats with the trollin' motors revved up to **** near full throttle when the first huge tide rip rolls through and all you can see is rods goin' off everywhere around you (including yours) to get your blood to pumpin'!!! The score for us for the 3 days was not as good as I have read other people posting hear (10 fish on, 5 to the boat, kept 3 clipped silvers), but I learned a lot and will be back to do it again. The biggest thing I learned is to use at least 40 lb leader. I was using 25 lb and landed 5 fish the first two days (not up on the line) and lost 3 fish on Sunday due to broken leaders before we could even get the rods out of the holders. Of the 3 days the bite on Sunday was definately the best, We must have seen at least 100 fish hooked in a hour and a half after the tide started to really move, to bad we had to go as we needed to get checked out and head home.
Good luck and tight lines, Jeff
