Default More Nehalem...

I returned last night from a week in Manzanita. I fished the Jetties Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday only for about 2-3 hours at a time. (Young kids family vacation ya know), would have loved to have spent many more hours. Tried to catch the last several hours of the incoming tide and high slack on those days. Picked up one beautiful 12-15# coho on Tues. about 9:00 a.m. (about 1 hour before high slack) I was trying for a big nook the whole time, twirling cut plugs near the bottom. I was only out there a limited time each day, but the ocean and bar were beautiful, no problem in my driftboat. I did make sure that I was out there at the perfect part of the tide and before the wind came up in the afternoon. What I witnessed was a pretty decent bite, especially on Thurs. when I saw about 15-20 fish hooked, the majority may have been coho, but there were definitly 5+ nooks. Some people may have been "regulations challenged" as I saw a number of coho hooked in the ocean and bonked on the head. Crabbing was fair with a good and increasing number of hardshells. This year was no different, as I saw some great nooks taken right in that slot on the inside of the South jetty. Wat a beautiful week, god I love that place.

I am getting really tired of those people that are regulation challenged. I guess it's time I got of my butt and started making the phone calls. Telling them doesn't seem to help. From what I hear from the ODFW fish checkers is that some of those people are even keeping nates. Those people are getting ticketed.

Ripple, i was there Mon until 10am thursday. I saw several driftboats but did not know who was who. I was in the Smokercraft with the electric trolling motor mounted on the bow. We were the ones catching all the fish ha ha. I caught three all by myself and we had a total of five. Yes i saw the silver catch out in the ocean just past the tips. That is also a barbless hook area. What is the color of your driftboat? Maybe i will know you the next time i see you, yes i to love that place, when i die i want to be placed on the tip of the jetty with a fishin pole in one hand and beer in the other and just left there.
