Don't go electic unless you have to ... My votes for a lpg or ng Paloma...As far as electric american is a good brand ...

Re: Who makes the best Tankless Hot water heater?
I wanted to install an electric at one time. My research showed that the electric ones would barely keep up with the shower needs plus any other house needs. My research is 5 years old, I suggest researching this further knowing and estimating your needs.

Re: Who makes the best Tankless Hot water heater?
Family of 4 and having hot water with no problems? My old research says you'd need 2, if not 2 1/2 tankless heaters. Really, do some research.
I decided to stay traditional, and bought the highest rated electric water heater around. I also installed a hot tub the same month. The new water heater was so effiecent my electric bill stayed the same.
For me to have one installed, which is/was a requirement for the warranty to be in effect, it was around 15-1600 total. I installed the new water heater and it was only 400 or so, and with a 12 year warranty.

Re: Who makes the best Tankless Hot water heater?
Talk to your electrician and plumber at the same time, all three of you face to face to face. The plumber will be able to tell you what you will need at minimum, the electrician will tell you if it is possible. Some of those units have huge amp draws.
We looked into it a couple years ago and the cost(s) would/will buy us 6.8 80gal lifetime warranty tank heaters. We were gonna have to upgrade the pannel it didn't have enough room for the new needed breakers, also didn't have the loading requirments left in the panel. The service needed to be upgraded also to handle the new load.
At the time we would have needed 4 of them. The main unit and a pup unit in both baths, in the laundry and also the kitchen. The electric are nowhere near what the gas heaters are.
So we now have an 80 gal tank, life warranty, on a home made insulating pad. With the new effecient tank and tossing the old monster our bill has gone down, and not one time have we run out of hot water.
Do lots of checking before jumping.

Re: Who makes the best Tankless Hot water heater?
I looked into this last year, just looking on the web at the different ones, ratings, etc. What I belive I saw in the electric is that you would need 2 of them if you wanted to run a shower and a sink or 2 other hot facets. It also seemed that if you went gas or lpg that they put out a lot more hot water.
hope this helps. Personally I will probably go tankless when it comes to building. Everything I read makes me want to go tankless, even though the intial cost is high.
