First-timer at Buoy 10
First off, thanks to all of those who provide great tips and insight on differnt fisheries. Made my first trip out of Hammond on Saturday and Sunday and couldn't be more pleased. Started out Saturday morning with a 35# Tule off the Church within fifteen minutes of dropping the lines in. Missed a couple more short strikes and released one Chinook jack between there and the bridge at low slack then ran to Buoy 10. Landed 3 there with easily twice that many missed strikes then ran back to the bridge in the afternoon and did real well on the outgoing between the bridge and the church, landing six more, of which two we kept. Sunday again started with action near the bridge with a couple of silvers and another nice chinook hen around 25#'s, and then out to the buoy. This was unreal, the action I had only dreamed of. Boats everywhere, tide riping in like crazy, trolling motor nearly wide open just to hold in one place, getting hookups every two to three minutes, often times doubles and even one triple. Unfortunately, other duties called and we had to leave right in the middle of a hot bite after landing eight or nine and keeping five. All in all, this was quite the experience. Even got to meet a couple of ifishers at 4:30 in the morning, waiting at the dock for daylight. Drifter and O.Cityfisherman, what happened to you guys? Next year, campground reservations will be made early so I won't have to sleep in the cab again and I will have a VHF so I can hear weather and ocean reports so we will know when it is super calm on the ocean and Buoy 10 is the roughest place on the river. Oh well, a great trip, none the less.
