That's a big fish. I personally would not want that sucker on my boat or even near it. But I would take a steak or two. Yummy!

Wonder what they did with all that fish?

well, they didn't ice it and they drug it though the warm Florida ocean for 4 hours then hung it up, I'm guessing that meat wasn't worth anthing by the time they could have cut it up.

of course we were'nt there so we don't know the outcome. I have no idea how long the meat in a maco lasts being dragged through the water for 4 hours. Then again, in Hemmingway's old man in the sea, he intended to do the same thing with a giant blue marlin.

I have mixed feelings about it but I am not gonna judge them for this. Their are people out there that look at us the same way if we kill a tuna, salmon, steelhead or bottom fish. Might think about it that way. No disrespect intended BTW.

I tend to agree. I think I would lean towards trying to photo it and then tell lies for the rest of my life.. Easy for me to say since I wouldn't let a 7' thresher in my boat...and I can't go out 70 miles...and "jaws" still scares me when it's on TV. Now next year when I land a 400# BFT @ 35 miles I will tie it to the boat and drag it through the water back to Garibaldi

yeah, I see your point. For some reason if it were a 100# fish it wouldn't bother me but it seems like there can't be many of those giants left swimming around. I bet it was quite a sight to have it circling the boat though, that would have been enough to make me move.

I would say that the meat was discarded, I was out in Florida to do a segment on Focus on America for my company, while out there I took a private fishing charter to get into some Marlin or King Macks, while out we hooked into a large Shark ounce we got it to the boat an hour later it was an 11' #750 Hammerhead, the crew asked my business partner and I if we wanted to keep it we asked if we could eat it they said no for Taxadermy I said no thanks, dont really have room for an 11 foot shark on my wall, so they kept the shark for themselves to put on there wall, I persoanlly think it was a waste of an awesome beast! I would show the pic but it is not letting me paste the code.

Goodkarma, I agree, it is a shame when big animals meet death. I kinda feel the same about big halibut too. Anything over 60 inches is the breeder stock. Personally, I have killed a big butt before and I was disappointed in the meat quality. Tasted fine but the texture is nothing like those nice 35 to 40# fish that just melt in your mouth.

I appreciate your stance on the possible waste issue. Not trying to down play it at all. The article did not say what was done with the fish afterwards. As for the trophy mount, take a picture is kinda tough with one of these critters. Rather have the memory of the fish in my mind and camera when it comes to sharks. Heck, we brought a 5' blue aboard this summer and that was spooky enough for me. Them teeth be sharp boys!

There are lots of people out there that claim to have seen "Bigfoot". Many of them have pictures showing what they call evidence of this claim. But in the end, no one really believes it because they can not touch it or feel it. If I ever run into "Bigfoot" in the woods and have the tools with me to bring him home in the back of my truck, you can rest assured I will. I will not just take a picture and tell the story. I will let you feel it and touch it. The same goes for a fish like that. You will be able to touch it and feel it at dockside. And yes you will be able to feel "holier than thou" and tell me how wrong I was for keeping it. But lets remember, they did nothing wrong. It was legal to keep that fish. Now if it went to waste, then I believe they will suffer bad Karma for it. But it is a great trophy and a remarkable catch, and I for one revel in the struggle that must have gone on out on the water. Good Job Guys!
