Default Team Bad Halibut II

Well we saddled up and rode out on ol blue for the day. We did take a nice boat ride probably put over 140 miles on the boat. We tried the rock pile where we did so well before and did manage about a 45lb butt and a really really nice king. We got 3 lings a couple of sable fish, various rock fish. We managed to kill a couple of rods, a down rigger, and a crab pot. not a real good trip but ever now and then you get one of those days.

Dan!

And one BIG humble pie. I bet it weighed better than #1000

Had the pleaseure to fish with ol' EZ Drifter. He was a pleasure to have on the boat and anyone heading out into the salt with an open seat should consider inviting him along.

Later, gotta go choke down some crow....

What a great day on the "Sea Swan" with Capin' Dan! and his dad, Mr. Fisherman, and Pilar! While I didn't do much for catching, I can say that the experience was a 10+! It was a blast watching Dan's! dad land that dandy Chinook. I learned a great deal from all and had a memorable trip with a bunch of great guys. Look forward to fishing with all of you in the future! Thanks again for a great day.

Hey guys it wasn't much fun be tied to that tree either. I thaught it might get fun but my wife just left me tied-up and went shoppin'! I did however learn that squirrels are far more intelegent and can be quite the conversationalists.

I'm just glad you had some fish-on!

Hey Capn Dan, thanks for the boat ride and the humble pie. I totally enjoyed the good company and the flat ocean.

A belated report from the 'Puffin' which acompanied us on much of our trip. They bagged 4 monster lings, some Sablefish and several nice yellow eye. The Tuna episode ended with a last light return and only one 25# Albacore to show for it. 'Night Hawk' ended the day with 4.

A tip from Jon is to use Sablefish belly as halibut bait They watched a charter doing this and on trying it immediately hit a 60# flattie. The guy on the rod took too long though and attracted the attention of a group of Sea Lions.

The pinnipeds took the belly and tail of the halibut and left the rest for the guys in the boat. Maybe the high rpm 130 Honda prop bearing down on their heads skeered them off. Jon said he backed right over em.

What the hell are Sea Lions doing 30 miles offshore at the Chicken Ranch anyway? Is food that scarce close to the beach? I think there's just too many of the cotton pickers. Time for a limited hunting season to thin them out.

Hey Dan!
You know darn well that squirrel would have starved. One nut isn't much of a snack.
