Columbia Results for 8/18
Fished out of Ilwaco and around Buoy 10 to the church. We couldn't shake the finned ones. We caught 5 nice silvers but all were natives. We had about 3 other takedowns but were gone before we could pry the rod out of the holder. We finally nailed a finned one we could put in the box Twenty six pounds of upriver bright We ended up calling it a day to avoid the horrid line when everyone is calling it a day.
Waterdog,
I caught up with you coming out of Carlton and flashed my brights around Forest Grove. I lost you as soon as we hit the passes though, my Bronco will pull my boat about 55 to 60 up the hills but that's about it. How did you do? I didn't see ya in the mix.....

Re: Columbia Results for 8/18
Fished w/ Ayefsh today out at Buoy 10 and the Astoria bridge. Bite didn't seem to turn on till about 10:15. Managed to hook 8, land 4, but only kept 2. All silvers. Put in at John Day and didn't have to deal w/ any lines or tie ups. Long boat ride, but not as long as the wait in line at Hammond. Be back out there on Friday.

Re: Columbia Results for 8/18
Incoming just back from buoy 10 around 10am landed a 10-11 lb chinook. Fished the incoming then cut out to the church hole, nothing then to the bridge and nothing there either. On the last troll up the oregon side landed a nice 10 lb coho (it was as long as the chinook) at the sawdust hole in about 30' of water, had one other hit there then headed in. Lot of fishing for not much action.

Re: Columbia Results for 8/18
I fished Friday out of Hammond, we got 2 24# Nooks, and 3 Silvers, off the Chinook Entrance, and released 4 w/ all fins, lost 4 others at the boat. On Saturday, we got 2 Silvers in same place. Then ran out to Bouy 10, and the bite really came on hot and heavy at about 11AM when the rip really hit. We got 7 more silvers, for a boat limit of 9 Silvers, and were back at Hammond and on the trailer @ 12:30, WOW What a great two days, 14 fish in the box, 8 wilds released, and 7 fish lost, and many other take downs!! Look for Pics. in next couple of days.

Re: Columbia Results for 8/18
This Buoy 10 thing is getting to be too much like work. Everybody told me guiding was supposed to be fun. Fished Friday hard and had a pretty good day with 4 people. Hit silvers at Chinook entrance at the end of outgoing, 12-14 pulls, cut plug on Delta divers. 6 fish in the boat before incoming, then nothing. Fished the incoming rips all the way back to the bridge and finally hit three nice Chinook at high slack. Hard fishing. Friday took out a couple of nice Ifishers, Neutron and wife along with regular client and a neighbor. Two fish at Chinook again, lost a couple on the incoming rip, picked up two more silvers and went dead until the turnaround at the bridge. We picked up two more after turn and headed in at 5:00 Pm. Long day for 6 fish. According to VHF reports it was a slow day all around. Some days you do, some days you don't. Thats why they call it fishing and not catching. I still love it! Re: Columbia Results for 8/18
T,
Due to "technical difficulties" the WaterDog was unable to make it out. I guess I missed your flash.
I did manage to make it out on Sunday. We fished the church hole from daylight to 9:00 am and put two 10lb silvers in the box. Headed out to the parade and picked up two finned ones around buoy 12. Worked our way near 10 and saw very little action. Headed back to the church hole and things had slowed there as well. Talked to the checker at the dock and she said those that were out in the ocean were doing great, those fishing the river were not. In the AM there were two boats that absolutly slammed the fish but they were to only ones. Someday I might actually experience a great day at Astoria, but for now I just got work for the few fish I get.

Waterdog - Not getting the dishes and vacumning done, and laundry folded by Saturday morning does not classify as "technical difficulties" unless Donna (his wife, for thosed that dont know his boss) told you that, then it would be a "Technical Diffculty"

Re: Columbia Results for 8/18
I just can't stand to play bumper boats up there. I think I'll stick to the church hole from now on. With the pending rain the upper river may get better and so I think I'll stick close to home.
Bait,
When Donna gives me a "honey do" list, I say, "Sure, honey you do it because I'll be gone fishin'." I always have a hall pass!

Re: Columbia Results for 8/18
Great weekend from Chinook Langind to the Bridge!
Slow Saturday with one 9 lb Coho. This was great for a buddy with us who has been in Oregon 7 years and never landed a salmon. We were glad to tell he's not a pilgrim anymore . What a happy dude! He lost one more and we release 3 coho just Southeast of the Chinook landing entrance about 11 a.m.
Sunday was great at the Washington side of the bridge. Good bite on and off from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. . Two of us landed 4 keepers, release 2 wild coho and I lost a nice Chinook at the boat.
The only bummer the whole weekend were the lines at Chinook Landing and from what I heard at Ilwaco on Sunday as well. At least an hour to put in and take out on Saturday at Chinook. On Sunday, less than an hour to put in but an hour to take out at Chinook! But you know, there wasn't anything not even this wrinkle to spoil a perfect weekend. It was a small price to pay! . Wait until next weekend!

Re: Columbia Results for 8/18
Waterdog, should have stayed at Buoy 10. Once the tide started ripping real hard, the silvers were coming through like crazy. We were marking fish constantly and getting strikes every few minutes and seeing others fighting fish around us at all times. It was fairly hectic as we were crowded up pretty close to the Buoy and just a little south of it. There wasn't much of a bite until the tide really picked up strong, then it lasted until 12:30 when we had to reel up and leave (and had the last hookup while reeling the last bait in!).
