Is The Garbage getting Worse......
Hunted the Gifford Pinchot yesterday above Carson. Hauled out three 39 gallon bags of cra* (beer/pop cans, water bottles, plastic wrapper, bags, etc....) Believe me I could have hauled out a semi full ! I did not hunt last year because I hauled out so much garbage the year before I didn't want to deal with it last year. I also noticed that the "bear grass pickers" have been at it big time. I grew up in the forests of the NW. It seems our forests have become nothing more than a garbage dump for the public. I just can't believe how so many don't care anymore..........

Re: Is The Garbage getting Worse......
Good for you. I was thinking about going up to my hunting area and cleaning up a few of those old camps. People wonder why they lock the gates.

Re: Is The Garbage getting Worse......
Always wondered what that grass was called that I see lots of folks cutting. Had to look it up. Learned something already.

Re: Is The Garbage getting Worse......
Good for you and your right it seems to get worse every year and yes that is another reason the Timber companies have been keeping the gates locked.
Thanks

I hunted the Wind River unit too. Thanks for picking up after the scum of the Northwest. FF

Re: Is The Garbage getting Worse......
The garbage drives me nuts ! ! ! I grew up in the woods out of Longview and we never saw garbage in those days. Times have changed unfortantley, to many user groups and many of those don't care or are from out of country and don't know any better. I carry a box of disposal gloves and 4-5 39 gallon bags every time I go in the woods. Just pack it out ! ! Even if not yours ! !
Sorry just had to vent........ Nik

Re: Is The Garbage getting Worse......
Our population keeps going up and the amount of accessible land keeps going down. More slobs + fewer places they can access.
I've heard that some states have free garbage pickup at certain times (maybe Idaho?). Something along the lines of once a month anyone can put anything on the curb and it gets picked up. I'd pay a few extra bucks if it would keep people from trashing open lands.

Re: Is The Garbage getting Worse......
We hunted above Carson and in the Kalama area.
We brought out some garbage but we found old camper shells and crap like that.
Did get to see a nice black bear.

Re: Is The Garbage getting Worse......
A while back I found where someone had dumped a truck full of roofing materials. Sorry to say but if I owned the woods it would be hard to justify not putting a gate up. You either have to except that sort of thing, put a gate up, or pay thousands of dollars to remove it.

Re: Is The Garbage getting Worse......
That sucks don't it ?
I bet a lot of them laugh when they do it ?
It's not just around here. There are some lakes above Halfway in Eastern Oregon. I drove all the way over there once to fish in the spring.
I was shocked to see Beer cans, Bait containers and fishing line everywhere.
What ever happened to the " Keep Oregon Green " Campaign. ????
Fishing holes can be some of the worst.
Three Rivers on the coast is a good example.
In the forest I see garbage dumps all over and that is basically why private timber locks their gates.
Also: That used to be an issue on the price for dumping. I believe minimum charge for the dump is $29.00. now. When dumping gets expensive people go elsewhere.
$29.00 may not sound like much but to someone that only makes minumum
that's a whole lot of money. But it doesn't justify being a pig does it ?

Re: Is The Garbage getting Worse......
I grew up in Tennessee and garbage was and is still free to dump. Counties have garbage dump areas spread out conveniently, some are even manned, and you just take your stuff there. Retirees needing some extra money are usually the ones manning the dump areas. When I say free I'm sure you are paying for it somewhere along the line in taxes but it sure cuts down on the illegal dumping like we see up here. I see some of the areas up here and it is ridiculous the crap people throw away. But to some people when it costs xx amount a ton at the landfill and they are making minimum wage with a family to support it might seem their only choice to dump the refrigerator in a state forest.

Re: Is The Garbage getting Worse......
I like the new sign at the Germany creek gate of Stella.
"No garbage hauling"
I guess you cant just say "I wast bringing this out here to throw it away, realy. I always drive around with a truck full of junk."
Personaly I wish they would just gate and tank trap it all. Then they would atleast have to carry it in.
I've found envilopes with addresses and such and turned it into the police and they did nothing. Someone needs to make an example of a few of these clows.

Re: Is The Garbage getting Worse......
They clean the beaches why not an Ifish Clean-up Rendezvous weekend(s) next summer? Get to know each other, tell a bunch of lies around the fire and do some payback clean-up for getting the pleasure of hunting areas we love. It's all good . We could target different areas that members identify as needing it.

Re: Is The Garbage getting Worse......
I have heard that there is a group called "Friends of the Gifford Pinchot" that does a clean-up or two a year. What's to bad is that it's coming in faster than it can be collected and hauled out.........to bad our National Forests look as horrible as they do. Nik
