Default Saddle Mnt. Doe hunt

My son has a doe tag for that unit. I have never hunted there. Can anyone give me some roads or area where we can start hunting ?

Thank you

There is a lot of state forestry land we used to hunt for elk but saw a fair amount of deer on it, go into Jewell from 26, hang a right and take the first right that is an open ODF logging road. Goes up into a lot of clear cuts but that's been at least 7-8 years, not sure how much logging since then.

Call the ODFW biologist for that area. There are deer everywhere in that unit. Find a logging road, find a clear cut and glass it at first and last light and he will kill a deer easy.

Good luck.

You can drive up Mcgregor off 26 near the drinking water fountain, lots of good cuts up that way, go early, stay late and glass hard, you should be able to find a doe in there if you keep at it, or you can take Wolf creek which comes off 26 a little closer but eventually runs into McGregor.
Keep at it ,they are in there.

I have hunted Saddle Mt quite a bit growing up. Seems to me in order to find a doe a person needs to find themselves a clearcut. Look it over real good with the binos, and then pick which doe you want to shoot.

Ha, ha, ha,.......or starve to death. Some of those clearcuts you will have to watch for a long, long time. It ain't like it used to be.

Agree with R.A.

Read the ODFW synopsis to find out which areas they think have good doe populations, and then hunt somewhere else. Clear Creek is good, as is Crooked Creek, mostly because they are walk in areas. I've seen lots of does at the timber edge of a clearcut, but each time I check my tag it says I'm in the wrong unit. Dang it!

Try the first right after the rest area on Hwy 26. It is a weekend only show and there is a sign for open weekends. I hit it just right last saturday and knocked my doe over by 9:15 a.m. -- in a clear cut I'd been looking over for 20 minutes and was just getting ready to walk over to the other side of the hill...they are there, just be patient and look over lots of country.

Doesn't strike any one odd they have doe seasons when there are not many deer to be found

That area is closed the last weekend of deer season to let the loggers at Stimson hunt. I know they arn't suppose to be in there but I always see them from the other areas around that unit!!
