My best friend when we were overseas, his wife's parents farm was seized by the DEA when the knuckle head kids made a meth farm. She goes home to help the parents and gets hooked on meth. 5 year marriage and childhood friends plus their two kids down the drain because of meth, what a shame.

If you missed it, here is a link to You Tube http://www.youtube.com/results?searc...&search=Search

If this don't work, just search "Crystal Darkness" on U-Tube. looks like it's split up into 4 or 5 parts.

Saw it last night.........
A Must See! I thought I was pretty knowledgeable about this subject and so didn't watch it, as it is I wound up watching it at 930 on OPB. Users are so impacted by this drug..it is so possessive of its users and alters their brain so insidiously. The user does things they never would (free of the drug), yet the craving and warping go on. Meth owns the user.
And you and I pay for it as victims of crime, fear, and worse destroyed relationships.
Take the time to see this show with your kids-don't let meth be part of your family.

We recorded it and watched it later after we returned from helping out at our church last night. The whole family sat down had a late dinner and really watched the message it was saying and some good dialog afterward so i know it sunk in. Excellent show, they should be showing this in our schools..........

That should have been a homework assignment for every kid in school. I don't think education is the answer, but if it reaches and helps one kid, it is worth it.

Watched it last night with our kids as well. Very sobering to think of the toll this drug has taken on our society. We also had some good conversation about it after.

Watched it with my 8 year old. Made a pretty big impression on him and spurred some discussion after the flick. If it saves him from even trying it it will be well worth the half an hour we spent together in front of the tube. What an important message. I appreciate all the stations taking time to provide this message to all of us. What a brutal, life crushing drug.

This approach is so much better than the old "this is your brain" ads when i was growing up. We sat down as a family and watched it. I thought it was well done and paced right for a half hour show. The information was first hand accounts thus giving it much more credibility. The information was graphic enough to shock the concious but done in a way that it could be viewed, in my opinion, by anyone 8 years old and up.

Sad how evil this stuff truely is........

Matt

My school made us watch "Reefer Madness", I think that had the opposite effect the teachers were hoping for.
Meth is evil stuff, and I think they did a good job of relating that to the viewers.
This should be manditory viewing for all school kids.

the part about the effect on the kids, and that one mother talking about finding her young child dead after being on a long binge, well it brought tears to my eyes. Nothing more tragic than that to another parent. At least in my eyes. Very good program. I hope MANY, MANY watched it. Parent, friends, and the kids who were considering trying meth. I hope they saw and heard the message loud and clear! I had a friend too who got hooked, lost his family, successful business, wife, friends, EVERYTHING including his dignity. Last I saw of him was three years ago, homeless. A shell of a person. For all I know he's dead now.
Pretty damned sad!

OK, I’ll admit having used it while in high school. I don’t remember it being all that popular though, more of a poor mans cocaine. I didn’t even really know it was addictive. But I don’t remember people steeling junk and scrap to pay for a meth addiction. Maybe they were and people weren’t talking about it back then like they are now.

Plus that stuff was just nasty. You get a couple hours of a feel-good high, followed by about 12 hours of stomach turning, feel like you ate rat poison, can’t sleep, sickness. How did that stuff get so popular? Is it made differently now or something?

Anyway, don’t worry about me. 4 years in the Marine Corps cured me of everything.

Does anyone know of any plans to re-show it. I got distracted at the barn and missed it...

A few weeks ago one of our local meth heads, known as the community thief, was in an accident in a stolen car, with stolen wire inside the car, and with gas cans full of gas, presumably stolen, also in the car. The car rolled, and the two occupants were trapped. Rumor has it that the first officer on the scene reported no fire, but they think one of the occupants lit a cigarette, igniting the gas, and killing both people. Was talking to a friend about it, and he was good friends with one of the guys in high school - said he was a great guy with integrity and smarts, but the change once he got into meth was simply incredible....

Anyhow, if anyone knows of a re-run, please let me know.

They kinda sugar coated the subject. The reality of what happens to familys, business and the general public didnt give justice to how these thugs of society ruin it for every one. The subject of recovery was also suger coated once your a meth monkey you are suspect for the rest of your life and I dont feel sorry for them one bit. I would of liked to hear more about the hurt they cause and see them thrown in prision and get a stamp on their licence so when they apply for a job or try to rent a home the business owner and neighbors can know exactly what they are and were they been and the threat they pose any one around them recoverd or not.

Yea that would really fix the situation . What if it was someone you loved, your kids, family, etc. would you still kick them to the curb if they were trying to get help?

Announced to my daughters (15 & 13) that we are going to watch a program together and got the teenage response "why". Well, it is because dad said and get over it (sorry, not a mean dad, but those with teenagers can relate). I thought it would be really important to watch it especially since this version was shot in Oregon and would have a local feel to it. Time came and we sat down and they did not move, it was great to see them tuned in. I am confident they don't mess with anything but thinking maybe they might know someone at school with the symptoms and they could help.

The program was good at the beginning and was informative as it seemed to reach out to youth then addressed much larger issues and older audience. That is when my daughters were not as interested but it helped me and my wife understand this epidemic. My daughters lost some interest during the middle of the program but they did a great job of wrapping it up to leave a powerful message to kids about this drug and the devastating effects it has on peoples lives.

Overall it was a very good program The music tracks were from a good friend, an awesome musician!

I started watching it with my nearly 8 year old daughter. She was terrorized by all the evil things she's never heard of and didn't understand. She was sobbing and shaking and we turned off the program so I could do damage control. The content and language might have warranted a warning and some sort of age recommendation. It was about as effective as saying "There's no Santa, no Easter Bunny, your parents only pretend to love you and you aren't very attractive." Instead of being informed about how to deal with the evil of meth, she's just scared of the world. I was really disappointed with how the program was packaged. And beyond showing how terrible meth is, I didn't see any tools for avoiding it, just a phone number if you've already "crossed the thin line".

Growing up a child of meth head parents I cant stand the whole shoot them all make it a mark on there license crap it just ticks me off my mother and step father have turned there life around sober and clean for 8 years now good church going Folk They are not a loss cause they just need the help and someone willing to help I thank God Every day for my mother coming clean and finally getting know her. Pete ... its a cruel world. the faster your daughter learns the truths out there the better she will be prepared. I have seen meth use as young as 11 .. thats three years from now Pete.

I think your really doing a disservice by saying the show was too harsh or rough, If you are going to be that protective how about recording the show, previewing it, and then making a decision on if it is appropriate for the age of your child.

You can't shelter kids for ever as much as that would be nice. And blaming the messanger for not sugar coating a 12 year old being gang ***** suring meth use is IMHO as bad as blaming a firearm for a murder.

I so disagree with that philosophy, because I bet that 11 yr. old meth addict will someday wish that he or she had parents who were a little more protective of his or her innocence and childhood.

Exactly.....why lay the blame someone else? I recorded the show and will watch it before exposing my 10 year old to it. I'll make the decision whether or not my child is old enough to understand after previewing.

Your right and Wrong Melissa ... you can not shelter your child in hopes they never are exposed to drugs or any other evil. But you can be Protective of thier innocence. We are talking about two different things.

Sheltering is hiding the facts from them ...

Protecting them is educating yourself and sharing that information in a safe and educated manner at a level you feel as a parent your child is ready for ...

Your child will one day need to spread thier wings, its natural .. and if you have sheltered them and do not teach them the truth about the world, someone will be waiting who will.

But if you have educated them about the truth in the world when they do spread thier wings they have good moral charecter, solid family foundations, and a clear understanding of the world to assist in the decision making.

I agree, but I would say, as in the case of Pete's daughter, some children may not be ready for the cruelness of this world, yet. Eight is not eleven, and an eleven yr. old meth user is not the norm.

Studies continue to bear out that one of the biggest deterrents to illicit drug use, underage drinking, and teenage pregnancy is for kids to spend quantity time with their families. Far more effective, IMHO, than having a young child sit thru a half hour of images and dialogue that they do not have the maturity to process.

Great show.

Even though I deal with people in the throws of addiction and drug use on a nightly basis at work. The show still pulled at my heart strings

It does terrible things to people and their families. Every effort to educate everyone is worthy of consideration. But I agree with many here. There is an age where it is appropriate and it is up to us as parents and grand parents to decide what is best for our children.
