Duck Boat Paint-Where To Get It?
I thought I would give the old sled a fresh coat of camo paint this weekend. Went to Joe's in Salem. $33.00 for a quart of Pettit flat, oil base paint....!!!! I like the color of the dead grass green.....but? Will need 3-4 quarts.
The only other thing I could find was the Krylon camo spray cans. It would take too many cans of spray to do the job right. And, I didn't like the darker green color.
Checked the web, I see that Parker has a camo green for around $30.00 per gallon (doesn't include the shipping). Dark green also.
So, my question is, what is everyone using on your duck boats? Anything available local? Mail order? I go to Portland often if one of the
Marine/Sports stores has something reasonable there?
Thanks
Jerry

Re: Duck Boat Paint-Where To Get It?
I use rattle cans from GI Joes.
Get Flat black, and see if they have any of the "camo" series stuff. Should be able to get some Olive drab/Sage/desert Khaki etc, about $4 per can.
you'll be ready to rock and roll.

Re: Duck Boat Paint-Where To Get It?
I did a 12' boat this summer with the Krylon "camo" paint. Much cheaper than buying the parker paint if you plan on buying several flavors.
I've found it at Joe's, Fred Meyers, and Auto-Zone here in Keizer. When I painted this summer Bi-Mart had one or two colors. They told me they will have all flavors soon. Might want to check as they were the cheapest of all the places I found them at.

I use Parker's Duck boat paint that I usually get from Cabelas and rattle can paint from wherever has the best price locally. The Parkers makes a great base coat for the rattle can stuff.

Re: Duck Boat Paint-Where To Get It?
Last time I bought a gallon of Petit "Dead Marsh Grass" (love the stuff, sticks like glue and lasts a LONG time), I shopped around at Joe's, West Marine (ususally the cheapest because they handle/sell the most) and Fisherman's.
Fisherman's had it the cheapest (by a couple of $$/gallon)!

I just did my 15 foot boat with Parker Duck Boat paint. Two quarts was plenty and I got it at Sportsman's for about $15 a quart. I then did the rattle can to create grass and branches. Looks great and is pretty tough so far. The best part of the rattle can is "touch up" when it gets a scratch!
gotZem!!!

I have a pint of primer and a pint of "Dull Dead Grass"....it's not Parker but I think it's this Petit. $50 for both.

Re: Duck Boat Paint-Where To Get It?
Just went through this too. Expensive stuff. We went cheap, rattlecan, rustoleum primer, rustoleum camo top coat with the rattle can . We used strips of mylar as a grass stencil, Not super durable, but easy touch up.

Re: Duck Boat Paint-Where To Get It?
Thanks everyone for all the help. It sounds like everyone had the same problems that I am having. Hunt'nFish, that sounds like a good deal, however I don't need primer. I have a good base of the Pettit "Dull Dead Grass" on there now. Just wanted a new top coat. I really don't need the multi-colors as I have a pop up blind that covers the whole boat when up.
I will check out Sportsman's for the Parker paint. Didn't see it at Salem, might have missed it? I will be in Portland later this week and will check out all the stores.
Thanks again for all your replys,
Jerry
