Coyote Hunting Help???
I got a coyote call a few years ago as a gift, but haven't had a chance to use it for anything other than annoying guests. Anybody know of an area I can go to call some in, or have any advice on how to?

Re: Coyote Hunting Help???
I dont hunt out your way but there are coyotes just about everywhere you just need to find a place that you can shoot get the wind in your face sit still and blow on your call for 30sec stop and look for 3-5min and repeat if nothing shows after 20-30min move to another spot.

Re: Coyote Hunting Help???
Thanks, I know some area's I can get at the top of a clear cut. I also hunt out of salem, been up to detroit and over costal range trask unit. But knowing to call for 30 sec and then wait will help alot.

Re: Coyote Hunting Help???
Before you drive all over and get yourself frustrated, pick up a good coyote-hunting video and watch it and watch it and watch it. I would recommend Randy Anderson's Calling All Coyotes II or Byron South's Coming to the Call.
We can all learn from the masters, and still hone our personal tactics based on our experiences.
Either of those titles will be money and time well spent.

Re: Coyote Hunting Help???
I seen a good show on coyote huntin a few weeks ago. They were using an electronic call, and just left it on the whole time til them dogs came runnin in. Then they would shoot em, and move to a different location. I jumped 3 coyotes two weeks ago archery elk huntin, and I missed one, and nailed a nice female at 25yrds. That was my first, but you bet ill be back to that clear cut come winter with a call.

Do you remember the name of the show? I would like to find some video's on it. And does anybody know any other movies that will help with Coyote hunting?

Re: Coyote Hunting Help???
Fishunterx,
I'm over in Beaverton, so is Rusty. Your welcome to my copy of Rusty's seminar video. I think I might also have one other Knight & Hale video that I found very useful interesting. We could get together for a beer some time a kinda Westside Dogsoldiers kinda thing. We can show you some electronic calls as well and Rusty is a heck of a howler too....although McMenimans might nto be the place for a demonstration.
Coyote hunting is a fair bit more difficult here on the westside, in fact I've only shot one this side of the mountains and that was a chance encounter out deer hunting.

Oh, PS: Check out the 2007 IFish Predator hunt thread, Rusty & Skein always put on a little talk to share their knowledge.

Re: Coyote Hunting Help???
reading or watching about how to hunt is one thing, getting out in the field and having someone who knows how to do it is another. After getting shown the ropes, go out and play around with calls. Doing this i've bagged two yotes to date, one this summer and one last friday. Practice and experience are everything when hunting yotes. Practice shooting too. the one I killed this summer was at 40 yards, the one I killed last friday was 360 yards. Get a howler and a rabbit squeaker. My primos howler seems to work great. the MOST important thing besides the wind in a calling setup is how well concealed you are. I can't tell you how many times i've been busted by yotes for calling while standing up or moving too much.
