Drano Lake - How's the catching?
Just wondering if anyone is fishing Drano for steelies ---- If so, catchin' any? From boat or bank? Kids want to "catch" something. We seem to be doing a lot of fishing... no catchin. Kids are losing their desire to fish with mom.
Any help is greatly appreciated.. We'll be fishing from the banks!!!
Thanks for your HELP!!

spoke with a fish checker on Sunday.
Go !! Drano is hot, cool water is drawing the steelhead in. Saturday he checked 36 fish and reported 21 released.

Re: Drano Lake - How's the catching?
I fished for four hours yesterday and caught and hooked nothing. I used sand shrimp and crawdad tails as I have heard that these will work. I have also tried pink shrimp, nothing has seemed to work for me over there for steelhead. A few boats really killed them while I was there, but most did not. There are a lot of fish in there as they are rolling everywhere. Any advice on exactly what to use and where to get it would be greatly appreciated. I have also fished the Deschutes heavily recently and about a week ago the fishing pretty much shut down. My last four trips have yielded 0 fish. The fish and game guy there said I was not alone as there have been very, very few fish checked in there during the last week, including the boat fishermen out at the mouth.

Hooked, when you go to draino, add a medium sized spin n glow to that prawn and set your rod in a solid holder, just in case you go from fishing to catching. Good luck and let us know how you do..... wish I could get there too.

Re: Drano Lake - How's the catching?
Hooked,
Like esidestlhdr said, lots of fish, but just a few people catching them. I have about fished myself out over there trying to catch one and can't seem to figure it out. If you are going from the bank, I have seen quite a few fish caught off the north end of the big rock point on the west side of the river. The point is up where all the boats are anchored. There is a nice flat sandy area that would be good for the kids.
Good luck and let me know if you figure something out.

Re: Drano Lake - How's the catching?
Thanks for the insight. Went out this morning -- we over slept and got out there just "after" the bite. But the kids saw about 15 stealies landed and were asking for their poles. They want to fish. Tonight, they are talking about getting up earlier and going fishing. I hope the fishing bug sticks around for them to get a chance to catch a few fish this year. We'll keep you posted on our catching.

Snapshot, what good does the spin-n-glow do? It can't spin unless they're pulling water down at Bonneville, right? Does it just float the bait up??

Re: Drano Lake - How's the catching?
The key to catching those Drano steelies is making sure that you cast into one of the open channels. The milfoil used to be so bad that fishing the "walking the dog" method, became almost impossible. Fresh sandshrimp used to be the top producer. If your going to fish at night, get there early enough to be able to see where the open channels in the milfoil are, and concentrate you efforts there.
