Default weatherby trigger

well i'm taking the vangaurd as my backup elk rifle. this trigger will adjust to a crisp smooth break, BUT when it is there, the saftey will not function (trial lawyers) at it's best adjustment, with the saftey still functioning it is grabby, rough, and touchy. a complete poj. can i FIX it or should i buy a real adjustable. timney is $85

I think you meant "Plaintiff's lawyers"

Get a Timney. Well worth it, and you'll save money in the long run if you have a shooter.

Before you do that - you are aware that there was a safety recall on the Vangard that should still be in effect. Dealt with the safety itself and the labeling. I'd check that first.

mine is a vs2000xx built in 2002 or 2003 so is not in this recall: IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE
VANGUARD BY WEATHERBY RIFLE
Weatherby, Inc. of Atascadero, California, is performing a safety upgrade on all Vanguard by Weatherby brand rifles manufactured between the years 1970 to 1993.

The affected rifles bear serial numbers from one of the following series on the receiver: 00001 through 03810; V00001 through V80966; VX00001 through VX44065; VS00001 through VS23699; VL00001 through VL46984; W0001 through W0099; NV0001 through NV0099. The safety upgrade will replace the bolt sleeve to prevent misassembly of the bolt, which might occur on the affected rifles. Such misassembly might result into a hazardous condition in which the rifle can be accidentally discharged without the bolt being fully engaged, causing severe injury.

WARNING: If you own a Vanguard by Weatherby rifle with a serial number from one of the serial number series referred to above: USE OF YOUR RIFLE MAY RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT AND SEVERE INJURY. STOP USING YOUR RIFLE IMMEDIATELY and click on this link vanguard.weatherby.com/consumer_register.php to receive a Bolt Return Kit. Only the bolt sleeve is being upgraded. Your bolt will be returned to you after the upgrade. If you do not have web access, call Weatherby at 1-800-227-2018, Ext. 999 to receive a Bolt Return Kit.

Baltz, mine from the factory was set at 4.2 pounds, I relay like 3.0, but if there is a recall from the factory, I am all ears, whats up?? with the recall on the Vanguards???? I relay like my .300WSM, poke holes at 100 out to 500, I use the Nikon 3x9x42 scope with the BDC.
If you guys know of a recall on the Weatherby, Please let us know.
Baltz, again thank you for the scope mounts, we need to have a cup of coffee on me.
Thanks "Norski"

I remember reading an article on this. There was a way to modify the safety on the Howa/Vanguard so that it would engage when the trigger was adjusted. I can't seem to find that now though.

Here is the post I was thinking of:
http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/...?t-190992.html

I suppose it's not exactly an article, but it could work.

i talked to the weatherby rep today, very good response to my trigger issue. with customer service like that, i'm surprised more of us are not packing weatherby's in the field.

I've owned two of them. Sold one (a Vangard) to a hunting buddy and neither has let anyone down. Although at the end of the day it sure is nice to take that Accumark off my shoulder
