Default Ocean Charter Info

I am looking for a good charter to go out on from Newport south to Gold Beach. Anybody know of any good ones? Or bad ones to avaoid? Also is it worth it to do the Salmon, bottom combo or should i just choose one fish to target? i know with salmon you can only keep a couple and bottom you get more? Thanks for the info

Just went out with newport marina store and charter company. They were cool. Office is right at the Boat ramp in south beach. Bottom fishing was a little slow out at the rock pile. If you go request the Umatilla 2 or the Irish as I went on the Blue Pacific and that boat was slow. The trip was still fun though.

My wife and I and some friends went out on the Blue Pacific sunday (8/12) on a combo crab bottomfish trip. We limited easily on bottomfish and one 10# ling, and came close to limiting on crabs. I was surprised at the size of the rockfish for this time of year, many in the 4-5# range. The B.P. didn't go out to far at all and we had pretty steady action. I'ts a slow boat, but the deckhand and skipper were both very nice and knowledgeable. In my experience the speed of the boat has little to do with the quality of fish. I would recommend any charter out of the South Beach Marina, Blue Pacific, Irish, Umattilla II, Smokee, they're all good. Just don't get as sick as I did, and keep an eye out for whales, they weren't far from shore and we even got a fluke shot. Good luck and have fun!

Uncle Roman,
I am glad you had a good time on the Blue Pacific and I didn't say that the slow boat affected my fish but when you travel 15 plus miles to the rock pile and the row boats are passing you it makes a long trek. On my trip the deck hand was rather rude to our group and the capn was very set on the little area of the rock pile we fished even though we were not getting fish. I am sorry to say I would not go on that boat or recommend that boat again. Just my two cents.. Tim
