Default Sportman's has landed in Anchorage

Well the doors opened yesterday here in Anchorage to the new Sportsman's Warehouse.

For all that have bought tackle/gear up here you know that some merchants charge way too much and lack a wide selection.

I took the Cabelas catalog with me and noticed prices at, or just a little bit above the Cabelas prices.

Scott, as much as I love using your cure I'd hoped it would never hit this market, but the inevitable is bound to occur  Still not the shelves here yet!

I grew up a GI Joe and Larry's Sports Center/ Fisherman's gooroo. The Sportsman's is nice for up here and I fret the bulletin board of what's happening where. (river conditions BB)

I like the conditions being updated, but you know that some of us can get that info, and do regardless. The one disappointing thing I noticed on the river report chart here at the Anchorage store was one of the honey streams I belt them in.

As most of you know, fishing off the bank is crowded in South Central and the last thing this place needs is more exploiting to sell product.

I can only take my second grader to a few areas that have no one at, but that is going to change really quick. The name of the game is to sell product and put the people in productive places. Unfortunately at the risk of losing out on what was good for our kid's. They take the guest work out of it and it opens the doors for all.

Three quarters of the staff up here is from Montana and Colorado. I bet they wouldn't appreciate it if I walked into town and exploited some of their hidden gems!

Nice store. I'm just a little tweaked at seeing a hidden gem on the bulletin board waiting to be over whelmed.

WOW! It finally opened.

I may have to put my wife and kids in the car tonight and head into Anchorage and check it out. It is a nasty rainy day so we will have to see.

Was the selection of tackle good? Did they have any good sales?

Yes!!

People were glowing at the 33,00 feet of goods. I heard some folks on cell phones bragging to their friends to get down their.

I'm happy to see the massive selection. It blows away all of these ma and pa shops combined.

We saw folks from Sports Authority and Walmart comparing prices. As you and I know, their prices have been too expensive for way too long. Their plans have been foiled and some of the unsuspecting public will soon realize that they have been ripped off for too long

Nice store and change for South Central. It's worth the drive.

I am very excited about this.

Prices here are nuts. Even from one Wal-Mart to the other prices vary.

I lived in Vancouver, WA for a while and I sure do miss Fisherman Marine. I was a little shocked when I first got back here that there really is no huge store for selection. B&Js has a good selection but again the prices can be a little steep. We sure needed someone to come in and start getting the pricing down.

I understand what you mean about publishing favorite spots. I am not a huge fan of crowds or flipping. I still fish like I did in the Northwest, better to sneak in low impact vs. trodding in with millions of folks and just drag in the fish. I enjoy my rivers up here in the valley.

I sure wish it wasn't raining and blowing today. Those roads are going to be a mess if it freezes tonight.

So where did the build the new store in Anchorage. Been a couple of months since I was there last. I make a number of trips (business) up there each year.

Congrats for finally getting a "REAL" sporting goods store up there.

It is over by the Diamond Center next to the Borders book store.

Everything cost more up there because it cost more to get it there! Simple math! Almost everything you buy in Anchorage goes to Seattle first. Everything! Stores must carry more inventory to off set the extra shipping time. No one is ripping anyone off. It just cost a lot to keep the doors open up in the great white north.

Thanks for the info Willow. That's where I thought it would end up.
