First Deer
I took off early Friday morning for deer season. Got there in the early afternoon and my brother and I had the good fortune of setting up the tent in the snow with 30 mile an hour gusts. Opening morning I was sitting in a spot I’ve had good luck in before. I passed up two forked horned bucks at 50 feet. They were tempting shots but I had decided this year I was going for a legitimate four point or bust.
The second morning I headed back to the same spot this time with my 16 year old cousin in tow. This was only his second time hunting and he had never taken a big game animal. I thought maybe we could find one of those forked horns from opening morning.
We were coming down the ridge and when I see a bunch of deer 75 yards out. I noticed a pretty good buck in the group so I tell my cousin to let him clear the does and shoot. About the same time the buck sees us and starts to turn and my cousin fires. The buck takes off running and just as I’m settling my crosshairs on him he piles up. My cousin had made a perfect shot.
Needless to say he was pretty pumped. Not bad for a first deer.
I ended up going home without punching my tag yet I felt satisfied. I hunted hard, I found the buck I wanted, and I helped my cousin get his first buck. It was a great season.

Re: First Deer
Heck of a nice first deer - good guide job. Maybe it will earn you some points with the Hunting Gods!!
