Default magazine subscription scam BEWARE!

If you get a nice polite fellow knocking at your door with the the following drill, BEWARE! They claim to be in program that helps underprivledged youths with job training and education. They claim to represent a company called OMNI HORIZON, and am selling magazine subscriptions, which equate to "points" for the Saleman. They will show IDs, and all the goodies to you. You can even call and talk to their "supervisor" . I thought I was helping out a nice kid to get ahead. I called all the numbers and check up to make sure it was legitimate. Turns out it is not. There are blogs all over the internet about the company, many people NEVER getting the magazines, no way to call customer service, , files police reports for fraud and theft. Some of the kids with criminal records, and even one caught in gresham for illegedly assaulting a woman. Some say they even go back to burglarize
after casing a place when people let them into their homes.
I just got back from the bank, and was lucky enough to cancel the check and transfer money out of the account just in case. This after my wife told me they came by about a year ago and scammed her. She never mentioned it to me before. Arrrgh!
Be very careful of these folks if they visit your hood. They wear a white shirt and tie, and go door to door.
I hope this is a head's up so they don't scam others out of hard earned money or worse.

Guess I have to sign my name.

Like e-mail solicitations and phone solicitations, unless I initiate contact I'm not buying. There are so many sleaze-bags who aren't willing to work for a living it just disgusts me. Thanks for the head's up, Brad. Glad you were able to pull the plug before you got tapped. Be sure to watch for unusual activity on your account. They have your name and account number and who knows what evil they may try.

no kidding. I just freaked when I realized I had deposited a bunch of money into the account yesterday. I managed to transfer it out, and my check I gave them had not been cashed. It cost me 30.00 to stop payment, but I saved 78. oh well! Account will be closed after my next bill check is paid.
I can't wait to get a call from somebody ****** off that I cancelled after the "3 days" of the contract allows.
There are so many low-life's around, it's just exhausting!
oh, and I'm going to call the police now, just in case.

I had a couple shady gals selling something in my townhouse complex yesterday. They were wearing nice white shirts with non-photo ID to go with it. They found me in the garage tinkering around. She started talking all nice and sweet and slowly walked in to my garage. I never heard what she was selling because she came in my garage uninvited so I decided not to give her the chance. I cut her off and asked her if she had permission from the mgmt. company to be on the property because soliticing in not allowed. I asked her to leave when she started and then had to tell her to leave. I bet it was something very similar.

Thanks for the head ups.

BRAD....I'd like to know what the police tell you. AND, how/where did you find out this was a scam.

We've had a guy or two in the last few years coming to our door looking all legit claiming to be from the Oregoniain, it's been awhile now and I don't even remember what the scam was, but it was a scam. I called the cops and the guy matched a description they had.

Anyway, I'm curious if/when I were to call the police on someone like this if they would even respond?

I'm in NE PDX, we're a ripe neighborhood for these sort of people,I think.

We had one of those come by our house in college. Scammed her into shotgunning a couple beers with us. She seemed pretty chill, and to be honest; i was trying to shamelessly hit on her. In the end, i never got her number and she never got a subscription out of me.

Speaking of door to door, the same thing happened after I graduated with 2 very cute Mormon girls. My roommate and I just happened to be barbequing(she was female) and they came in and had a nice chat with us. They wouldnt eat any food. Same outcome, I didnt get their number.

Maybe God wants me to get out there and look for a woman.

Okay, I admit, I had two good looking ladies come to the door trying to sell me magazines last year and I bought it. I spent $118 cash, got there phone numbers and was thinking I'd hook up with one of them. Called both the next day....wrong numbers. I thought the worst. 2 months later my mags were in the mailbox. Lucky I guess.
