10 Year Anniversary Trip Suggestions
I'm starting the planning for a trip with my wife next fall for our 10th Anniversary! Can't believe it. We'll be leaving the little monkeys with grandma and grandpa!
I'd like to take her someplace really nice, but have been going back and forth between someplace tropical or a trip to Europe. She's been dropping less than subtle hints that she thinks a trip to Italy would be really romantic. Fall is hurricane season down south, but we could always take the trip later when it's cold and snowy in Bend.
So, what kind of trips have you done for a special anniversary and do you have any recommendations?
Thanks!
TF

Hawaii, if you never have been there. Warm, sunny weather, she will love it, so will you.

Re: 10 Year Anniversary Trip Suggestions
Hawaii is nice, but if you have the opportunity to go to Europe, that's where I would head. We've been to both and while Hawaii is nice, it's far more romantic to head to Europe. We've never been to Italy but that's our next stop. My only recommendation would be that you give yourself 12-14 days minimum and don't try to do several countries in a short period. I would suggest only staying a couple of towns/villages, and use those as your base and travel from there. If you're moving every day it gets old....stop and smell the roses in region, so to speak, and sip the wine! You won't regret going to Europe, and I believe you can always go to Hawaii.....it's also great for the kids.
My favorite so far has been France and Switzerland. All of it is nice but now that the Euro is at 1.40 or more to the dollar it's expensive.

Re: 10 Year Anniversary Trip Suggestions
For our 10th we took a cruise out of Miami around the Bahamas. Left the rugrats with the grandparents. That was nice. For our 20th next spring we're looking at a trip through Europe with a cruise around Italy. I've heard a lot of good things about Southern Italy. Might bring the kids this time as their old enough to enjoy/remember the experience.
Hawaii is always nice. We take long weekends there. A trip to Hawaii can be as formal/expensive or as casual/inexpensive as you want to make it. I've had just as much fun on my cheap trips to Hawaii as my expensive ones.

After 10 years of marriage, you should know that if she thinks Italy would be romantic, it's probably time to start learning conversational Italian.

Re: 10 Year Anniversary Trip Suggestions
Go To St. Thomas USVI. I just got back from a Honeymoon there and it was SPECTACULAR! The Weather was Awesome, the beaches are Awesome, everybody speaks english, US territory so its just like being in the US. The Rasta's are very nice people, non harrassing.. Its Mostly adult couples and very few children on the beaches. Lots of shopping, eating, snorkeling!
This is all only if you can handle views like this

Now that right there is funny!
Both of us have been to Italy several times before, but we haven't gone as a couple. We haven't been able to travel much as just a couple since our boys were born as my folks are all back east and her folks aren't up to the task any longer. I think we both like the idea of a villa in Tuscany, but the sound of a quiet week or ten days on a beach (likely the longest we'll be able to get away for) sounds like heaven to both of us as well.
The only other problem with a trip to Italy (besides the weak dollar) is the noticeable lack of light blue shallow water with bonefish tails sticking up out of it. I'm thinking I can squeeze one or two days of fishing in to the trip if I'm willing to pony up for a couple of days of spa treatments. Seems like a fair trade to me!

We went to Couples- Negril in Jamaica for our honeymoon, and it was unbelievable. All-inclusive, incredible food and top shelf liquor all week (I probably gained about 12 pounds). All sorts of activities included, snorkeling, sailing, windsurfing, even cliff-diving. The water is a steady 80 degrees or so. And there are fishing trips too from the locals (didn't get a chance to do it though) If you like reggae music, you'll definitely get your fill.
It ended up being pretty affordable too (don't know how much money is an issue) fall is hurricane season, but early spring could be a nice getaway (much later than that, and it gets too hot down there). We'll probably go back for our 10 year anniversary
If you're interested in checking costs, we were able to get really good deals through http://www.discount-all-inclusive.com/ because they combine a discounted vacation package with airfare.
I love hawaii too, but that can be a great family vacation. Couples has a "no kids allowed" policy which tends to keep things a bit more romantic.
As for europe. It could be great.. It depends on how long you can leave the kids with the grandparents for. You'd probably want to be gone at least two weeks IMO. If you can swing that... it's a great idea. Then again, depending on their age, it could be a good family vacation as well. My son is two, but I'm hoping when he is past 6, we can all go to Europe.

St. Johns
Ireland
Kauai (North Shore)
Bora Bora
Spain
Greece
Bhutan ( I'm sending Mer there in the spring) I'd go but it's two weeks and somebody has to watch our little monkey man. This place is amazing.
Very few tourists, and a country full of Bhudists and himilayan peaks.
Or......... The most romantic place on earth for couples. Niagra Falls, NY.

I just got back from Rochester. How that made the top ten places to live list floating around on the "Keep PDX Weird" thread is beyond me. I think I'll save Niagra Falls for a mid-season anniversary.
Bora Bora, Tahiti and Kauai are sounding a bit more like the ticket. Any specific suggestions for resorts? My dad just got back from the home country (Italy) and he said the dollar is so week that it cost him about 3 times the typical trip.
Maybe the Gilcrest suggestion isn't too far off. I hear the exchange rate is pretty good there.
