Stoves, Wood, lets talk SAWS
What saw do you drive when your gettin your wood or what ever you may need a saw for.
We got a new Stihl 460 last spring for firewood. Also have an old 034, & 036. 32" and 24" bars. Skip teeth and sharp os possible.
Winter project with the boy is total rebuild of an 084, with a 72"er and 404 chain. This one will be a screamer when all said and done. Don't know why, it's a boat anchor to start with but it will be a fun project for us.
We use Stihl for service reasons is all. Husky can be almost as good just not quite there yet. Don't need service all that much but when it's needed I don't have time to mess with it.
So what say the wood people here? I see lots of orange around these parts and not many dogs at all.

Stihl 031, 20 in. bar, very dependable saw, great torque, it cuts bigger than it is.

Mine is a Craftsman with a 20" bar
My Dad was a Mac man for years. Swore by them and at them if I remember correctly

My brother operates a Log Max danglehead processor. Perfect 16" rounds dropped into the back of a trailer.
For manual labor, I prefer Husky.

Re: Stoves, Wood, lets talk SAWS
I have got a Husky 346XP 16" Fast 12500 plus RPMs Jonsered 625II 24" reliable and a Stihl 031 20" retired but still a great saw. Would love to add a big Stihl such as the 046 or 048 to bat clean-up. I am just a home owner cut for firewood guy, do I need four saws.

Re: Stoves, Wood, lets talk SAWS
Recently sold a Husky 3120 (125cc). Thing was a beast. Just two big for the normal wood around here. 99% of the time, an 036 or so is plenty big.

Re: Stoves, Wood, lets talk SAWS
My parents have a Stihl with I think a 26" bar. Thats what we use at the sawmill too except longer bars(I swear one of them is about a 48"+). Can't remember model numbers. I "get" to use mom and dads saw to cut firewood. Of course they are kind enough to burn it for me while I am busy with school.

Re: Stoves, Wood, lets talk SAWS
I run an old O34, bought this saw in 1985, stills runs and cuts great. It has been abused over the years and just keeps right on cutting. Would not run anything but a STIHL.

Re: Stoves, Wood, lets talk SAWS
Got a Husky with 24" bar. It would easily handle a 36 " bar with a skiptooth.
Also a Mac with 32" bar.

Re: Stoves, Wood, lets talk SAWS
034 for me too. Would like an itty bitty one for carrying in trees and a big one would be nice too. Have had it about 16 years, have had zero trouble other than sharpening and using up lots of skip tooth chisel ground chains. I do have to add gas and oil and clean out sawdust every once in a while.
Those crazy German perfectionists are awesome.

This is me, a lil old farm boss, 20" bar. It does the job, and has me and my moms place around 4-5 cords per house.

Husky 55 Rancher. I had a 041 Stihl for years and then I picked up my brothers Husky. It was so much faster and lighter. Now it just sit's as we bought a pellet stove.
