Try the McKenzie down from Leaburg. I can't imagine the crowd being any worse than it got to be at Dexter.I always said that if I had to fish below Dexter I would quit, but I tried it in May and it wasn't to bad(pretty courteous fisherman, and friendly). The fishing was great, but the word got out and the people across the river gave up salmon fishing and joined in. The crowd was worse than shad fishing on the Umpqua. Many guys were long lining (long leaders small corkies and they would gather were the fish congregate and drag the lines hopefully through the mouths and jerk). The fish are still there.when the water rises and cools it may pick up.

santiams are starting to heat up again just get there early or stay there late and fish water with a lot of cover. i raised five fish to flies this am in the span of about four hours. brought one home for the bbq, looked to only have been in the river for a month or so. the moon, air and water temps, and overcast skies in the am are making some good fishing (finally)!
