Butt-out tool???
Just wondering if anyone has used one of the new Butt-Out tools, used to help clean deer?
I was thinking of buying one and wanted to see if they really work.

Re: Butt-out tool???
HAHAAAAA! I couldn't find a video, but I did go to the cabelas page and read the quotes about the tool...here's my favorite...
"I found out that this field dressing tool is very effective if used properly.
However, it is IMPERATIVE that you make sure your Buck is completely dead before you try and use it."

Re: Butt-out tool???
There was another one called the Deer-e-ere that had me rolling on the floor.
"The Fastest Easiest way to Disconnect the Anal Alimentary Canal from the Derriere of Deer or similar size game." Such a fancy name for a deer's backside.

Bought 2 of them for my hunting buddies. They will make great Christmas gifts. Can't wait to see the look on there faces when they unwrap them. What is wrong with using a knife.

You ought to be one of the schmucks that has to take a sample of this thing around and try to sell it!!!
I have been pitching it as useful for head removal from the same general vicinity on humans.........
Don, I would be interested in hearing your thoughts after you have field tested it.

My boy thinks it would be quite the tool, he will be interested in your report. That for somereason is his least favorite part of the process.

Re: Butt-out tool???
Don't Laugh ...
Yes I used one last week. And as far as using a knife, I'll never do that again, this is far too easy and efficient. This thing is the real deal.
I field dress all the antelope on the people I take to Wyoming and I thought it would speed things up and make things a lot cleaner for me. Cutting out the "you know what" and pelvic bone is the the most time consuming and potentially messy job in a field dress.
I used it on three antelope. It worked well but I know it will work better on deer and elk. The antelope tissue is not as tough as deer and elk and there was some slight tearage. I tied off with crab line.
There are a few tips before you should know before diving in. Roll the aninal on its back and with your boot push on it's belly to squeeze out as much of the "you know" what before inserting the butt out.
For your info, I did three antelope with standard latex rubber gloves and the only blood I had on me was a little on my watch that the glove didn't cover. All three antelope were killed in seperate spots and put in the back of the truck by 12:00. When I'm done, I dispose of the rubber gloves, wipe my Alaskan Blade trader down with paper towels and then a guest dribbles about a half a bottle of water on my hands and blade trader and I wipe it all down with paper towels again. The gloves and towels go in a ziplock bag and I wrapp the butt out in a towel and it's back into my fanny pack. It's important to be quick and efficient because afterwards everybody is hopping back in the truck and sitting side by side. It's not good to be messy.
It works well but I got to tell you there are some amazing looks from the guys when I whooped that thing out. They all stepped back and got real quiet for a while.
No pictures were allowed.
John

Is this a one-time use item?
Are there special cleaning instructions before sticking it back in your pocket?

I hear ya!! I think this goes in the side pack only. not in the back pocket!
I don't think I will run one thru the D/W though... my wife freaks out if I don't wash the dishes before putting them in there... I couldn't imagine her reaction to one of those going in the D/W!

Re: Butt-out tool???
It's one thing watching that video on line for the first time ... and it's another thing watching the expressions on your guests faces when you straddle the antelope, squeeze the extra stuff out with your boot and then commence debutting.
I handed the first guy the string so he could tie off and he had no idea what he was holding it for until I asked him to help out after pulling out the recommended 8 to 10 inches.
He jumped back in shock, you would have thought I'd asked him to do something naughty
Anyway, it helps if you have one person debutt while another ties off.
I think you can probably have your animal debutted and field dressed dressed in about 10 minutes and move on to the next one.
I wish this was one of the accessory products we owned the rights to, it works great.

Comparing the fork and spoon to the Butt-out tool Lord have mercy Too each his own. I guess if removing the hind end of a deer or other big game has been a problem for some in the past, this tool is perfect for the biginner. Just follow the instructions. hehehehe

Now wait a minute. I thought we were just talking about inserting the thing into the stocking. You've moved-on to what the gift recipient does. Don

Re: Butt-out tool???
I wanted to add that we did get to try-out one of the butt-out tools last week, on my brother's 3x3. It worked very well. We are really happy with them. For us, it's always been just a sort-of ornery task with concern over cutting something unintended. For those who find them unnecessary and even silly, that's fine. For Jon and me, they are worth carrying just to add that small element of simplicity. Don

Re: Butt-out tool???
This has been a very entertaining thread. I just use a stick for crying out loud. With a stick you can just move the "membrane" to one side and cut around it with a knife. Works great. I could, however, see an advantage to being able to pull some of the membrane out because there's usually some "berries" that are left in the end of the "chute"
To each his own, but this too falls into the same category as this:

Re: Butt-out tool???
Well I'm glad to see I'm not the lone butt out user anymore
It is a great tool and a lot of laughs too!
For those of you who haven't used it yet ... "KILL SOMETHING ALREADY WILL YA!"
