Default Great Camo Job on my new AR 15!

I was so pleased with the results on my new AR that I wanted to share the information with my fellow Ifish Hunters who may be interested.

I just got my new AR 15 back from a local man who did a fantastic job of cammoing (sp?) my new "baby". Not only was the job professionally completed, it was very inexpensive, featured the Dura-Coat finish, and was sealed for durability. If you are looking for a super deal on a camo job for your rifle or shotgun, drop me a PM and I pass along the information on this gentleman. (Located just west of Portland).

Believe me, I've tried to do the job myself, but only had limited success. This person knows his stuff and will do a great job for you!

Very nice John!! Now your gonna have to find a desert camo pistol grip for it to match.

Question...
Have you shot it with that scope yet? The reason I ask is that the scope looks like it's mounted a bit far back to have enough eye relief.
Not being critical...it's just that I've found that Leupolds & AR's like to be mounted about even with the rear of the reciever.
Just curious.

Boy your gonna be well armed for this year's Predator Hunt!
Always gotta have a back up right! My .280 mishap on the hood of the truch is evidence of that, huh?

Cooky,

It is a DPMS lower and a custom Olympic Arms Match Grade upper in .223. 1/8 twist, and 20" SS fluted barrel. Hogue hand grips and fore stock grips. Lots of time spent locating a special Rock River 2 Stage trigger and it shoots like a dream. I am not as good a shot as this rifle makes me. I topped it with a Leupold 3.5-10 Boone and Crockett Reticle Varmint Special. (Ouch! That one really hurt the pocketbook!!)

Custom made by a Gunsmith in Minnesota. Name by PM request only (Ifish AUP)

That camo job looks deadly. I see dead yotes in your future.

The scope on my AR ended up about that far back when I got the eye relief where it was comfortable for me. My scope has about 3" of eye relief. I see pics online of scopes on ARs that are much further foward. Personaly getting my head that far out in front of me isn't comfortable.

I would think if your camo'ing the gun, you would have had the scope done also

Gun looks good though

BOE,

Actually I did ask the man who did the camo job to camo the scope, However, after he spoke to Leupold, they told him that if the scope came in for repair and was camo'ed, it would void the warranty. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that that might have been a costly mistake. So, I can live with the way it is and I actually like the overall look.

Thanks for your comments.

Put some camo 'tape' on the scope. Works well.

You have your scope mount on backwards.
I have the same barrel on mine and it shoots very very good.

Twodogs,

You know what...I think you are correct! I did not mount the scope, but I will take it to the person who did and have him take a look at it. I'd be embarrassed if I did it, but this time I can plead innocent!

If anyone else notices this mistake, please comment so that I have some back-up when I take it to my gunsmith.

It's a rail mount so "backwards" is really only relevant if you can't get the scope forward enough to get proper eye relief- but that is what appears to be happening. If you are naturally in a good position with the scope that far aft then leave it alone. You'll buy yourself quite a bit of eye relief flipping the mount.

I shoot with the charging handle in my nostril so there is no way I could shoot that rifle with the scope that far aft.

Looks great, but scope mount is backwards.

I did a MEGA A4 a couple years ago in desert camo...the Dura coat is holding up well...

Rusty, the gun looks great! Mine's just a plain ol' black one. I hope you bring your AR when we head east in a few weeks and we'll toss a few rounds down range!

Looks good. Both of them!

I bought some Duracoat paint and an airbrush. I have a few rifles I want to do a plain flat-black fishing, for corrosion prevention, and one rifle I want to do up in snow camo.

I wanted to try this myself. I have a couple of "practice" guns to spray first. One is my Snake Charmer (my halibut gun), and the other is a Mossburg 500 (my friend's bear gun). Making mistakes and working the kinks out on these guns won't break my heart.

I will post results, whenever I muster the time to get going on the projects. I am still waiting for the airbrush to be delivered.
