Default I need a rod and reel for Buoy 10!!!

So...I have a limited budget but need to get a decent rod and reel so that I can join my friends at Buoy 10. I have looked at a couple dozen combos in the Cabela catalog but am not sure what to get. Any suggestions?

If you are on a limited budget then just purchase a level wind reel capable of holding approx 300 yards of 25-35 lb test line and a stout pole. Bimart for example has some combos that will work just fine and you do not have to spend more that 60 to 70 bucks for the combo, You wont get a top of the line outfit but it will do the job for you. Good luck. Cagey.

Hey Jojo,
Like CAGEY says, there are lots of combos that will work. It all depends on how much money you are willing to part with.
ABU/GARCIA has a combo that will give you an excellent real on a very good rod for salmon and steelhead. It comes with a med/heavy grafite rod and one of the following;
1. ABU/G 6500c3 righthanded, $99.00
2. " " lefthanded, $99.00
3. " 5500c3 righthanded, $89.00
4. " " lefthanded, $89.00.
The differance between the 6500 and the 5500 is line capacity but both have enough to you proud. Match this combo with any of the good 20# mono lines and you are fishin'!

I recently bought one of those Abu/Garcia combos at Fred Meyer, They were $89.99, then they had a sale for 25% off all combos, then I had a gift card for $25.
Not bad for $42.49
Seems pretty good for the money. My old 5000 is in dire need of some maintenance. Now I can do it and still have a reel if it takes me a bit to get it back together.

Hey Sinker,
I also bought one of those combos. DId you get the $15.00 rebate off the reel? I don't know of that is still going on but I ended up paying only $45.00 for mine. Still a descent Rod and Reel.

No I heard about the rebate a little bit before buying mine. It must have been over by the time I bought mine.
I bought it about a month ago or so. Wish I could have gotten the rebate, that would have made it really cheap.
